2008 Cayenne

I saw the Airstream towing comparison video here. Airstream's choice of a Cayenne as the tow vehicle was interesting to me. The video below may have been posted before too but is an impressive demonstration of the latest electronic towing stablization systems.

I checked the 2008 specs. All wheel drive. 500hp and 516lbs torque! 7700lb towing capacity, state of the art towing stabization system. Talk about panic stops!

YouTube - Porsche Cayenne Towing 911.

Interesting video...I hadn't seen that before. There is a big difference between towing (and panic stopping) a car on a single vehicle car carrier vs. a full loaded Airstream trailer!

I know some Porsche cayenne owners and all I can say about this suv is you have to save a lot of money because routine maintenance is very, very ... expensive, even in Europe where the cayenne is made, so I suppose it's worst in your country....

Yes.. The 911 on the trailer would have a higher centre of gravity than an Airstream. The video showed a simple ball connection with a long shank. The car and trailer would weigh about 5,000lbs.

One would think a properly connected 5,000lb Airstream with quality WDH would be easier to tow by comparision.

The Safari is my first ever travel trailer but I have considerable experience towing top heavy single car haulers like that one, and boats in the 12,000lb range. The Airstream is IMO is far more well behaved than those rigs, despite its larger surface area.

I plan to spend more time with Google studying these electronic towing stabilization systems. It looks like they will do for towing what ABS did for braking.
