You should be able to do 10 mpg, but I'm afraid with that big ole motor you might get 8. Just go 55 and you will take less of a hit in the hip pocket. Buy the 'Burban. Then next week you can get your shiny new silver trailer!

I was just getting ready to tell you about 4wd in that ad (or lack) then saw you were ahead of me. That can make a difference in price on resale, but not that much difference in other things. Depending on what you end up towing, the 1/2 ton can do a heck of a lot. We just turned 212,800+ on our '01 Sube and I'll compare over-time costs with anybody. It's been exceptional and the only big issue is new tires every 50,000 miles and replacing the front axle-power steering assembly. I just replaced all the shocks at 204,000 merely because they were 12 years old and had that many miles on them, and can't tell the difference. I just went up and back to Glacier last weekend - "flat" for around here since it was no major passes, and both fills on the tank got the same mpg = 12.8 And, that sweet spot seems to be around 63-65 mph. We had a 94 as well, which got better mileage but that was with a 3.43 rear end - I've got the 3.73 now.

Go for the one in Oregon. Known history. A quick air flight up there, and a bonsai road trip home. Nothin' to it......

In the motorcycling world we call that an IronButt run.....

PharmGeek,
I have a 2000 K2500 Yukon XL that I ordered new, so it's 13 years old now and I plan to keep it for a number of years. It has the 6.0 L engine and the 4L80E transmission (4.10:1 Axle Ratio). With this combination, I do fine towing my 1991 34' Limited in the Rockies and elsewhere. I'd say that I probably get 14 MPG on the road (solo) and about 9.0 towing (these are 70 MPH figures). The 8.1 L engine was discontinued several years ago. Many parts of the 6.0 are common to the 4.8/5.3/6.2 L Gen III and Gen IV small block engines, and they are still in production. I would advise against the 8.1.

seriously...I have been just really really tempted to just buy the ram 2500 diesel 2012 model in carmax - 50K miles - bighorn model - Im getting weaker...especially that my wife gave me a chunk of her money to make the newer purchase feasible.

Folks, there is a great likelihood that ill put in for that diesel tomorrow and roll with it...

Yeah, that is a tad random, but we talked more about what we wanted from our TV...more broadly....and long term...and with her help now its all good in the budget...why not...

How much is the Ram? That seems like a bunch of miles for a truck that is a year or two old. Maybe the price will reflect that. Those trucks are sometimes 54-60k new. Hope it has new tires already. One thing is for sure- you will never be overloaded.
I am pretty convinced that "waiting till December" to buy a trailer ain't happenin'. I thought you might have your Flying Cloud 30 by Labor Day. You will probably have it by the 4th of July.

Well - there are only 3 bunkhouse models on lots in a distance I would drive - including to colonial in NJ

Good chance I'll finalize a deal by end of July to grab one of the few 2013 models still on lots hopefully at better price than 2014
