2000 Blazer 4X4 and 66 Overlander

I have a 2000 Blazer 4X4 (4.3 L Motor) which is rated to tow 5500 lbs. The '66 Overlander comes in at about 4400 lbs. I'm not worried about towing power but rather the transmission.

Does anyone have a similar setup and if so, will the tranny hold up on the Blazer for trips to about 300 miles round trip on mostly flat ground?

Thanks in advance for sharing.

Don't really know the answer to your question, but just wondering....are you talking about the S-10 Blazer, or the full sized one? If the S-10, is it 2, or 4 dr?

If it's the 2 door model, I wouldn't do it no matter what transmission it has, but that's just me.

There are so many opions about tow vehicles, weights, tongue weights, weight distribution etc. on this forum it will make your head spin. There are probably no less than 1,428 experts on this subject here on the forums and I realy don't know who you would want to listen to or which advise to go with. I know fo folks who will get out their lasers and start measuring wheel base; ball height, fender height, front wheel base weight, load bearing on each axle and so on. Check the toungue weight of your truck and the capacity. Remember, when mfgs talk about tow capacity they are also including any added weight in the truck! This includes you, your spouse and Fido along with luggage. Good luck to you and keep the shinny side up.

It's a 4 Door but not the small S-10. All the numbers indicate it will tow, just don't know how strong the tranny is. I mean, its in good shape and all but I don't know how durable.

Thanks rickandsandi, I understand what you are saying. I'm also more than willing to take criticism and advise for those who are in the know. I bow to you friend, looks like you've been at this for a long time.

Go directly to a transmission rebuilding shop, they know.
