I'm interested in the responses to your post, Free. The new Dodge could make a great TV.... time will tell.

I have a 05 with a Hemi with the tow package and it does a great job. Just wondering about the new rear end with the coil suspension on the 09.

I assume you are talking about the new 1500. I have towed my '75 Argosy 26 with an '09 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4X4 Hemi Big Horn - but only for about 10 miles (not a real test, I know.). Worked/felt great. New Hemi is loaded with power could pull twice the weight of my Argosy with ease. I don't know how the new suspension would handle the extra weight though. I have a straight - no drop, no rise w/d hitch and had no trouble achieving a level set up with my trailer. The trailer was not loaded.

Let me say up front that I am not trying to start a flame war.
But, aren't you guys the teeeniest bit worried that Chrysler may be gone in 2009?
I have a Nissan Titan and the word is that the model is toast after this year (ironically Nissan was going to market Dodge built trucks with Nissan badging instead).
Orphan vehicles would be bad - no aftermarket goodies, little OEM support...

If Dodge goes under they go under. I don't worry about things I can not control. Plus someone will make parts for them if they do go under.

Just had drinks with a friend who owns over 20 body shops. Parts for GM in the past few months have been impossible to find. The most recent was a 2006 full size van with major front end damage. They had to fabricate parts
The world has changed and at some point all of us will be hit with a hard dose of reality. I say if you invest in a new truck, go with Ford.

While I have no special insight into the future of any of these models, I'd be very surprised - shocked even - if parts availability became a serious long term problem for something that sells/sold in the hundreds of thousands.
There may be some short term difficulties as suppliers and banks wriggle through the current difficulties, but long term ... I'm not seeing it.
I believe you can still get transmission, exhaust and engine parts for 2 stroke Saabs, replacement engines for Fiat X 1-9's, and if you really must, I know a guy who has a cylinder head for a late 30's to mid 40's Lycoming o-145 B2.
Our neighbor just bought a 2009 1500 Ram for a 27'-ish SOB (replacing a fiver pulled by an '05-ish Ford with a kaput motor). It's a good looking truck, and I imagine you could probably get a good deal on one.
Or any of them (F, GM, Dodge), really.

My experience is that aftermarket parts can be difficult to get for vehicles not produced in large quantities. Right now new model trucks are not selling well and only the manufacturer has a reason to have some parts available. Aftermarket manufacturers have no reason to take chances are making something new without a large market out there. If you can't find parts for an '06 GM van, that may become common. The government is backing GM and Chrysler warranties, but if there are no parts, there's still a problem. You may be able to get parts for old Saabs (I had a couple back in the 60's), but they were infinitely simpler machines than modern vehicles which have many, many more complex parts.
If I were looking for a new TV I'd be nervous about buying anything but Toyota or Ford.

Can anyone tell me what kind of mileage the Hemi is getting pulling a trailer?
