Done.

I bought a Suburban tonight. I feel that I got an excellent deal on a nice Suburban, and ended up with a upgraded model for a better price than a base model, due to their year end rebates, and some relentless whining at the dealership in Orange. 53 miles on it so far...

Thanks!

I decided on a 2007 Suburban 1500LT with their 5.3l engine. The decision was mostly made in light of recent fuel prices, and the fact that GM promises up to 21mpg for this vehicle on the open road.
Also, since this is a 2007, and the 2008's are lurking around the corner, the dealer was able to forward all their incentives to me, making a new car purchase fit my budget in the first place.
All Suburbans with a 6.0 did not fal into that category, and would have cost me $ 12000.00 more, approximately. They had Suburban 1500's on th elot with 6.0l engines.
The Suburban is greystone outside, with ebony upholstery. This translates into charcoal grey metallic, with black seats.
It is nicely equipped, even though it's just one click above their base model LS. The LT package provides bucket seats with a center console, basically, and a set of fog lights, plus different wheels, as far as I know.
I went for the Suburban over the Expedition EL mainly because of fuel economy comparisons, handling/braking, and of course the price of the vehicle. Ford could not drop below the magic $ 30k mark for a new truck.
53 miles on it and counting....

Uwe,

I tow my '67 28 footer behind our 1/2 ton Yukon XL with the 5.3l with no problem.

I think you will find that the Chev/GMC SUVs will handle and maneuver MUCH better than the Ford products.

We have 160k miles on ours and though I'd love to replace it with a shinny new one, it has been so reliable that I can't see giving it up yet.

Good luck in your search!

That's good to hear. I had 166k on my 97 Suburban, with no signs of engine fatique. The body and frame held up really well also.
Time will tell if the new ones are as stout as the old one was.
The new Suburban rides better, and has real brakes, a dilemma with the 97.
I think that the Ford ExpeditionEL had more useable torque, and a quieter ride, but I have no complaints with the GM product as of yet. Both are capable vehicles for what they were designed to do.

Congratulations. I think you will like the new Suburban. I really like the looks of the '07's. The only complaints I have with the Expeditions is that they don't get the greatest gas mileage.

I don't know about the mileage yet. And yes, it is a pleasant looking wagon. The interior is a bit stark when compared to the Expedition EL, but it's also somewhat timeless, not much to distract from driving.

Uwe

What??? You are not gonna let me ride in your new wheels? Is it because Mom liked me best?

Oooh, not timeless in that sense....
Of course you get a ride in it. How about at the next Rally?

Davis,
The new 5.3 is supposed to be even more economical than the previous 5.3. It goes to 4 cyl mode while cruising, allegedly saving fuel...who knows, but time will tell. The pumping losses of the 4 inactive cylinders must be immense, though...hope that this isn't just a GM marketing stint.

new burb

I think you will have many happy miles in your new Burb. We have 99 1500LT black with tan leather, a Vortec 350, and 4wd. It gets 17mpg, not towing. If you keep to the fluid schedule it will be good for 200,000 miles. Enjot! LJH
