Waiting it out

We are on the road from Texas to Alaska and are currently waiting out the snow storm in Calgary, Alberta. We drove for about two hours in the snow, but decided to hole up in Calgary when the forecast called for 30 cm over two days.

We are not winterized and so far everything is working OK by keeping the unit warm. I keep the hot water heater on and run a small electric heater in the bathroom, which is on the windward side of the trailer.

If we could escape Calgary, the temperatures are warmer up north, but the roads are really bad around here. We will be patient and enjoy the warm interior of our aluminum home.

Can't blame you for waiting it out. Better to be safe than sorry, besides, sounds like you are nice and cozy inside. Keep the furnace running to protect the tanks. Soon the weather will break and you'll be on your way.

Jerry and Jeanie:

This may be the only leg of your trip I'd rather be at home today. It's 86 and just about perfect.
Enjoy your down time and the fact that you've got a nice warm place to stay for awhile. Think about the rest of us who would rather be out camping somewhere in our Airstreams rather than home in the driveway trying to get it put them back together.
We're watching your adventures with great interest and look forward to your updates.

You are brave soles. I did not know you could get much further north than Calgary this time of the year.
We are not fairing much better down here. We are expecting 6 inches in the valleys and 24 in the mountains.
Heading south would not work either.

We are headed north to Skagway. We are work camping this summer and the job starts in a couple of weeks. We built in a couple of weeks of travel time just in case something like this happened, so we do not have to be in a big hurry.
