STAY-Cation/Winter Home

Well I dun it now.

I'm retiring in two to four months - a little earlier than planned and I've stuck my foot in it semi-royally. So I am once again looking to my good friends here to bail me out.

The original plan was to turn my Avion into my "snowbird home" and stay in Arizona or New Mexico over the winter, moving only once or twice. And to use the Eddie Bauer during the warmer months go go off and see America. My family is not really very close - with the exception of my sister and her kids. Now I don't want to be all that far from Karen who lives in Ohio, but still want something where I don't have to winterize the trailer(s). Something where I could have a cabana to keep the trailer out of the hot sun, etc. AND being a lone female who doesn't touch electrical or propane problems... being in a nice park with helpful neighbors (who will help out in return for turkey pot pies) would be a big plus.

And worst of all I think I'm on the track of the best of all worlds - with one tiny little problem - It's Texas Airstream Harbor Inc. - Yep.
- Located in E. Texas, not that far from major Airports so sis could visit
- lots of cabana sites
- seems reasonable in cost
- gotta join the local WBCCI, not a problem
- pesky little problem: 10 meter(35 foot) "stay-cation home" is an Avion
- Eddie Haskill - the 25 ft Eddie Bauer Airstream is the roamer

So - anyone know of a place like TAHI somewhere between E-Texas and Florida (might also consider Savannah Ga area). I don't suppose TAHI would allow me to Park the Airstream in the FRONT and hide the elephant Avion behind it?

Paula

Sounds like a job for Escapees. They have the Escapees Rainbow Parks in Livingston, TX, Summerdale, AL, and Bushnell, FL. Other places as well, but those three are in the geographical area you mentioned.

Tennessee?

Paula

of course we would love to have you in Texas :-) there are a couple options, Texas Airstream Harbor at Sam Rayburn, also there is an Airstream park in Hillsboro. I would ask both about the "cousin" Avion.... as long as you have an Airstream as well they might cut you some slack.

You would probably have to winterize at Hillsboro... perhaps not at Sam Rayburn

you might also look at Tennessee Cumberland Plateau...... again, probably someplace that you would have to winterize.

As the sister in question, I vote for Savannah or north central Florida! Lots of geezers to hang out with but not obscenely pricey like the southern part of the state.

Never stayed there but, Williston Crossing in Williston, Florida. Farther south but no winterizing needed.

You will have to get further south in FL to get where there is no freezing weather. I was in Brunswick GA when my Airstream's interior water line froze and burst, when the trailer was not heated. I've seen water features freeze, like the fountain in our park, ~70 miles south of Orlando.

But, even with these occasional temperatures below freezing, when occupying the trailer and running the heat as needed during those few days, there is no need to winterize.

TAHI has a great website, which probably includes contact info. Get in touch with them and see what they say. It don't hurt to ask.

TAHI has a great website, but no one answers the phone and the voice mail advises me to e-mail them.

Did that last Monday. The silence is deafening. I asked about garaging the Avion there along with the Airstream. A simple "NO" would have sufficed.
Or a really nice we regret our bylaws don't permit...." It looks like a great place and one that might even make me consider trading the Pewter Palace for an Airstream... but well guess I'll have to spend my time and money somewhere else. Pity. They have several cabana's for sale and apparently not very many buyers with real cash.

Paula , let me know when your in Ohio next ! Also get a big silver hay tarp and cover your Avion paint red numbers on front and Airstream on back , any luck they'll never notice unless a tornado whips it off .

Goal15 thanks for Tennessee link , I go to Jamestown and had no idea .

Land Yacht Harbor in Melborne, FL would be a good choice unless it just wouldn't work for you geographically. They are not strictly Airstream but there are a load of them there.
