The concern with off season camping might be the unpredictable nature of the weather. Major flooding, snow and ice in Texas, and those pesky tornadoes across the South seem to make watching the forecasts and being flexible as to location a full time job. So, if you are going, be careful out there. Pat

This IS out travel season, fall, winter, early spring. We're in our Airstream, in AZ watching football with the windows open. Who would leave a lake cabin in Minnesota in summer.

But we have left home way too late; no water system, lots of blankets, plenty of propane, set the furnace very low to conserve battery and propane, don't tow on snow or ice.

Given the mild winter we've been having, I regret having stored our trailer away for the season. We could easily go out and camp. Project for the next season: install a wood burning stove.

That should allow us to go off the grid for far longer into fall and even winter if there's little or no snow.

I can sympathize with my Northern brethren, but here in the Gulf Coast area I haven't needed to winterize yet; the lowest overnight low so far, camping or not, has been in the low 40s.

Since I bought my Airstream when I was still working for a living, if had I lived in an area where the camping season was only 8 or 9 months long I probably wouldn't have bought one at all, since fully half of the 10 Federal holidays and associated long weekends— Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, MLK Day— occur in months when I wouldn't have been able to use it.

I don't know how you guys can put up with not being able to camp year-round. I'd have separation anxiety if I couldn't use my Airstream every few weeks.

I would have one about half that size in the Interstate.....if f there were someplace to put it.

There is no free wall....and, have you ever been in an Interstate?

No free space, anywhere.....but, that's part of their charm...everything you need in a very small space.

But, I would love one....have a wood stove in my living room, a nice fire going in it as I write.

Lighten up! You paint a very dismal picture. We've towed from CO to FL the last three Januarys and will do it again next week. We sleep comfortably in our Airstream and have never failed to find a decent CG with power. Never Walmart. Be prepared, be cautious, be happy.

Even with the rains and cold out west, I actually find winter camping more pleasurable. Granted, no snow/ice or winterizing here, but, darned pleasant. I didn't mind that it was 42F inside the trailer over the holidays. Slept like a baby and no furnace until I decided to get out of bed.

Interestingly, out west, winter is a better season for things like this, much like when I had a convertible or when I had a Vespa. Summer is often too hot and too crowded.

I just spent the week in Whistler BC. campground was packed. A foot of snow came down. It was 14f at night.

It was great!!!
