Paradise Park, Punta Gorda

Thinking about purchase or renting during Dec, Jan and Feb. What are thoughts about this park? Where is. Closest beach?

Thank you

Visited this former all Airstream park in Feb. 2019. Beach is at least an hour or more away. This park is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You have to go north to Arcadia (about 35 minutes) for any major grocery store. Kind of isolated out there.

Having said that, the folks we talked to the day we were there were very nice. They do have a small golf course, nice pool, wood shop, and community building. The place is kind of unkempt looking with a mix of Airstreams and a bunch of other brands stuck in together. Some spots are very well kept, others not so.

Port Charlotte to the west is 30/40 minutes away and Ft. Myers is about an hour southwest of the park.

We lived in Old Naples for 13 years and owned a home in Naples for 25 years. We may have a slightly jaded view of surroundings as we enjoy places that are well kept, clean and trimmed landscaping. Just our humble opinion.

Winter in Florida

I will stick my neck out here and suggest that if you want to winter in Florida you look at Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne, Fl. We have wintered there past 2 years. Very well kept park. 300 spot and mostly Airstreams. The rub with a bunch of folks is a strict "NO PETS" policy. We like that but some folks do not. I get it. We just enjoy peace and quiet and no pet deposits to deal with.

We will be there again this coming winter. Give them a call and get the info on rates and such. You will not find a nicer, less expensive place to winter in Florida.

This is coming from someone that owned a home in Old Naples, Florida and lived full time in Naples from 2001 to 2014. We are kind of particular about our surroundings and have found LYH to be quite nice.

Beach is 15 minutes away. All major shopping within 10 minutes. I-95 just 5 minutes away for easy north or south travel. Kennedy Space center 30 minutes North. 1 hour 15 minutes to Disney. Daytona beach 1 hour 15 minutes north. Just does not get any better unless you spend a lot of $$$$.

I tell every Florida hopefull to come experience before buying any thing any where in Florida. I've seen way too many get discusted and move out . It's not the same for everybody every where.

For example AS park in Melborne donesn't allow pets. And trees are rare.

The "No Pets" policy at LYH is a huge benefit for us. We prefer peace and quiet and no surprises in the grass along the street. There is a palm tree in front of every spot. The lack of shade trees is a concern for some. Sure makes keeping your AS clean very easy.

You are very correct about spending some time in Florida before buying anything permanent. Depending on where you are the summer heat/humidity can be brutal. If you winter in north Florida it can be pretty cold at times.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but does Melbourne say "NO Pets" at all, or just no outdoor ones? We have a cat that stays inside all the time (she's afraid that there will be that cold, wet, white stuff outside).

We stayed in a No Pets park once and my wife was nervous because we were taking care of our grandkids gerbil.

Yep, no pets in or out. Just to clarify.

It is alway difficult to make recommendation not knowing what type of activities you enjoy. We are familiar with both Paradise and LYH and both have advantages and disadvantages. Paradise is definitely in the middle of nowhere but a lot of activities, nice pool and very friendly people. LYH is convenient to the space center and activities in Melbourne but they have no pool and the no pet policy. Another option is Sarasota Lakes RV park in Sarasota. A bit more expensive but close to everything. 10 minutes to beaches, st armands circle, and longboat key. A lot of water activities on the bay. Of course a lot of museums, theaters and music. Sarasota Lakes also has a lot of planned activities and a beautiful pool. Like most financial advisor disclaimers I do not own interest in the facility.
