Maybe what you were seeing was some of those fairly rare Airstream fifth wheels from the 80s? Here's a link to one of the posts with pics of one of them:

You well may have seen some SOB's at Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne. Here is a quote from their website, "Land Yacht Harbor of Melbourne has 304 sites with 50 sites designated for non-Airstreams, limited sites for 40' motorhomes, 5th wheels can be no longer than 36'."

Wow for those of us whose pets and children have left home we cherish our free and easy lifestyle. We have discovered GEO CACHING and this is a veritable Mecca for that sport!!

We like Melbourne too
Paradise Park is another formerly Airstream-only park in Florida and allows pets. Very very friendly place, fun (and a little bit funky) golf course, and very relaxing for us to stay there. We liked it. It is near Punta Gorda, just north of Ft Myers. And not very close to much of anything else.
LYH is in a great location, we think. Short drive to anything at all. On the other hand, you have to drive to get anywhere at all. Not too great to us overall, but for east coast Florida it seems as good as it gets. We really like Melbourne -- nice town.

That's your "official response" to get rid of my dog and go GEO CACHING. I guess it is meant to be that I never stay at this restrictive park.

That is neither my response nor is it an "official response" just a statement of fact as opposed to emotion.

Most of the RV parks we have stayed at have a rule about not leaving your pet unattended, whether it's in or out of your trailer, and I have supposed it is to prevent the annoyance Wasagachris mentions: constant yapping and barking. The park management is responsible for enforcing the rules, just as is an apartment mgr with renters who have late, noisy parties that annoy the other residents, so why not just tell RVers that they, or their dog, are unwelcome if their dog annoys everyone around them?
We make a point of following all the rules and being obvious about it to prevent officious other residents from "reminding" us of our obligations (I tend to get nasty when other people mind my business). We always have a "doggybag" tied onto the leash (and always a leash), we don't allow him to anoint anything in someone else's camping area, we don't allow Caliban to bark more than once or twice (just as long as it takes us to say "quiet!") to avoid annoyance to others, and we put up a "fence" around the area under our big awning that encloses a yard for Caliban so he feels at home and strangers are discouraged from approaching close to our door and setting off the K-9 alarm unawares. And we don't leave him alone in the trailer.
Given that we make strenuous efforts to be good neighbors and responsible dog owners, it offends me that we are barred from some RV parks because others transgress/have transgressed and are inconsiderate pet (well, to be realistic: dog) owners. I resent being the baby being thrown out with the bath water.

Self-appointed dog police will remind you of (their interpretation of) these rules while you are walking your dog. Bottom line is, it's a nice park, but if you have dogs, best avoided. We managed to enjoy our stay, but won't be back.

It is the most friendly dog place around, yes limit two, yes 6'.
But there is 1 mile dog walk, a dog park to 'em run loose.
The are no dog police.
Been going there for 5 years no issues at all with dogs.
