Toilet over laminate?

I've removed the carpet from my '95 Classic and am in the process of installing laminate flooring.

I'm to the point where I have to decide whether I remove the toilet floor flange and then re-install it over the laminate, or else I leave the floor flange in place and cut the laminate to fit the outline of the floor flange. If I do the latter, then the top of the laminate will just about flush out with the top of the floor flange. In either case the toilet itself will sit on top of the laminate.

Previously, the toilet sat on the plywood floor; the underside of the floor flange was flush with the top of the plywood, and the carpet butted up to the toilet base.

I know, shag carpet in the bathroom, what were they thinking?

My instinct is to remove the floor flange and re-install it above the laminate but I'm not very experienced with toilets so I'm asking for opinions.

Thanks
