Removing paper backing from vinyl floor?

At the risk of sounding like a stupid question...here goes. You know the paper backing used on the old linoleum or vinyl floor? Well it sticks to the wood floor - held on by the adhesive - when I pulled the flooring up. It's the back of the vinyl that separates or stays stuck. I wondered if anyone has any advise for removing it. I think I'm going to have to sand it off - water and a scrapper doesn't seem to work very well. It's pretty thick like cardboard.

I also thought about putting down a wood floor so I wondered if I even needed to remove that thick paper if I did a floor like in the photo. It's a pallet floor made from pallets in a herringbone pattern. Do you think this wood floor is too heavy for the trailer?

Don't worry about the paper. You can use a putty knife scraper to get most of it up. Your underlayment for a wood floor will smooth the surface well enough. Your pallet floor looks great...but belongs in a cabin....way to heavy for a trailer on the move. You can get the same look with a lot lighter product.
