I recently discovered this flooring at IKEA. I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I am seriously considering it for our AS. It will keep the vintage look with a new product. This is real linoleum applied to plastic tiles which simply snap together. It seems to be very durable and well made. I purchased a box to experiment with, and I really like this product. Below are some pictures of the linoleum side and the back side.

Looks like pretty nice stuff - would be good for a basement also.

How heavy is it in comparison to say a vinyl place and press tile. Do you recall what it is a square foot...$

The linoleum layer is about 1.5 times as thick as a vinyl stick down tile and the plastic (PolyPropylene) extremely durable and no plasticizers like you find in vinyl and PVC.

I like the idea of using this product since it is linoleum and not vinyl. My only issue is that it is not made in the U.S. but I guess that is the world of today.

If you get any water spills, the water will seep through the seams and be trapped between the flooring and the plywood below it. Once or twice won't hurt but you don't want a chronic problem to creat floor rot. Be cautious using it around damp areas such as showers unless there is a way to seal the seams. FWIW.

Looks like a great find. IKEA has, to my mind set anyway, REALLY well thought out concepts and ideas. They really seem like they have done a LOT of the thinking ahead out the buyers area and set it squarely into the designers area - a real paradigm shift in my mind - I LIKE IT!!!! Be sure to post all future thoughts, experiments and experiences (WITH PHOTOS!) for all us AS nuts!

Dave - thinking that the water on the floor comment might apply to any and all 'non-sealed' type flooring, no? Just sayin...

I will certainly keep you posted, I am very certain we will be using this product. I had it outside for a few days in the AZ sun and it did not de-laminate or warp. That says alot! This is a floating floor just like a laminate. I like it because it closely matches the 9" tiles that were original to my AS. I also like the idea of authentic linoleum made from wood pulp and linseed oil vs vinyl. I will be sure to take plenty of photos when we decide to lay this down.

I agree with you on the products that Ikea brings to market. In addition to the linoleum tiles they have some that are made from Sisal, and just plain Polypropylene that look very nice. Their Blue poly is very close to Airstream blue. I have an Ikea kitchen in my house that is incredible, and I have installed one in one of my rental properties that really made the place look trendy and cutting edge.

We finally got around to installing the flooring and it worked out well. We are very pleased with the outcome.

Looks nice! Did cutting the tiles do anything to compromise the plastic backer? Any complications or issues?

Not at all, I was concerned about this as well. They were very easy to cut with a jig saw and they did not de-laminate at all. The instructions from Ikea suggest a jig saw as the best method for cutting. The only issues we found was that you have to remember to keep the locking tabs all in the same direction. In some cases we had to cut a full tile in order to use the correct locking tabs. Our trailer is a 28 footer and we used 9 boxes of tiles. They cost under 3.00 per box. I forget the actual price. We checked into Marmoleum and other types of floating floor systems and this was the best value in our opinion.

No, I posted wrong... sorry for that. The cost was less than 4.00 per square foot. The tiles were $31.49 per box. The cost was $283.41 for the tiles and we spent around $100.00 for the aluminum angle material and other supplies to do the trim.

As with any floating floor, you'll want a gap of about a 1/4" at the perimeter. Although, because this product has a plastic backing, rather than MDF, one might be able to get away with less.
