nail down tongue and groove or floating? cork...

We want to install cork flooring as we refresh our '78 Minuet, but we have not found the product we thought we were looking for. I anticipated finding floating cork at Lowe's or HD, but have only found cork tongue and groove which must be nailed down. It looks like a great floor, but is this possible or good to do on an Argosy floor? Is the plywood underlayment thick enough to nail into? Is nail down okay for an rv floor? Where do you find plank cork floating floor? Which type is preferable. We'll also be going into the small bath area with whatever flooring we choose, so any pointers about that are appreciated. We'll be fitting around the trailer furnishings, so again, tips are appreciated. feel lost in the woods and need help! ~G

After doing a good bit of research, we're going with cork. Rather than a floating floor, we're doing cork tiles. I'm not an expert on Argosy floors, but our Overlander has a 5/8" subfloor with a 1/4" plywood sheathing over (and overlapping) the subfloor to provide a smooth surface. I can't speak for others, but I'd be nervous putting nails in the floor. The floating floors are available online and I think you can special order a number of different options from your local big box hardware store. Some of the floating floors are the "click lock" which don't require fasteners. I'd be nervous about the cork in the bathroom, but again, your mileage may vary.

Your Minuet may be a special case particularly if it is the 6.0 Metre. Most 6.0 Metre Minuets produced in 1978 had aluminum composite flooring that won't accept nails (some of the 6.7 Metre Minuets also had the aluminum composite, but not nearly as high a percentage). If you Minuet has the composite aluminum floors, you are basically limited to floating floor products or carpeting. Another consideration is the weight of the product installed as the single axle Minuets had axles rated for no more than the GVWR of the coach.

Lumber Liquidators carry Lisbon "click" Flooring in several Cork styles.
Jelinek Cork also offers a variety of cork floating floors.

Good luck with your Minuet!
