Thanks for all the replies and suggetions, we ended up going with vinyl planks from Home Depot (dont' remember the brand, wasn't the Allure) and they really do look like real wood, they are beautiful and lightweight, although when I did the calculations the overall weight isn't that much less than regular laminate flooring - but this should hold up better to the dogs' toenails! Will post pictures soon
