Direction of vinyl flooring

We are preparing to lay Allure vinyl flooring in our 69 Overlander. I'm having a hard time deciding on which direction I want to lay it down. Do I want to run it length wise from tongue to bumper of the trailer or across from side to side? What are your thoughts? Pros and cons to each decision. I've seen photos of floors done each way and like them both, but just can't decide.

I would think lengthwise would be better since there would be no seams, or only one at the side of the trailer at its widest point. At least, IMHO.

Be aware that in time, every 4 foot seam of the floor, will cause cracking of the linoleam.

Run the floor covering sideways and seam it at every floor seam.

Why will it crack at the seams?

As the trailer moves down the road, it twists. The floor seams would appear to never move, but in fact they do.

In time, as the linoleam hardens, the cracks will appear.

That's why most everyone will either use carpet, or floor tiles.

Since Allure is in strips and not a sheet it really doesn't matter.

I have done it both ways. Front to rear in a 29' Ambassador, side-to-side in a 34'er.

Side to side makes the floorplan look wider and not a long tube. Long ways looks better IMHO. Sideways will make you have short pieces at the edges if you are not super careful. Long ways takes lots of planning.

Side ways has you trimming across the short direction of the plank. Long ways has you slitting entire planks.

Short pieces at the end of a run will tend to open gaps as the temp swings.

Sideways seems to go in quicker.

How is that for a definite answer?

We got the flooring in today and it looks wonderful! We still have to do the trim work. Excuse the mess in the pictures! 😉

Scooter that looks great!! You layout is very close to my 69 ambassador. We are planning on laying the Allure African Rose wood sticky side planks. Is that what you used "adhesive sided planks?" Any trip ups or tricks we should know about?

Yes it was the adhesive side planks. Watch a few of the YouTube videos before you begin and you will be fine. Laying the floor lengthwise rather than from side to side meant we had very little waste. We bought five boxes and have more than the fifth box leftover.

i was going to ask if it was floating or glued .
you say they came sticky on one side, and are they the tough and groove snap together ?

It is an adhesive side and top piece. It does not snap together but rather just sticks together. See photo

What color is that? Did you pick the sticky sided stuff over the click together version for a specific reason?

The color is Autumn Oak. We chose the sticky kind because of the recommendation from the clerk at Home Depot. We went to get the snap together side. We are really pleased with the way it turned out. Some have reported a smell and ours did smell at first, but there is no smell now.

doing a 71 ambassador 29 ft plank flooring (home depot) antique elm. hope it looks good when done need to have up and camping end of this month .
