Attaching Quarter Round???
I am looking for some ideas on how to mount my quarter round over my floating cork floor? My 2 ideas so far have been: and adhesive or small screws.
If I went the adhesive route, I would need something that sets up very quick and holds strong. There really isn't a way for me to hold the quater round in place other than by hand.
If I go the screw route, I was thinking something like #6 or #4 screws but then I have to drill holes everywhere...
Any ideas on type of adhesive?
Thanks!
Chris

How about 3M double sided tape as used for trim on exterior of cars? I think it is red in colour and instant adhesion.

Not a bad idea. Can you pick that up at big box stores or do I need to go to a automotive place like Autozone?

Why not pre-drilling the quarter round and using finishing nails? That with some filler that comes in various colored sticks to match your finish, should be just fine. Lots of different ways to skin a cat, (no offense to the cat lovers out there, just an old saying, no cruelty intended )

This is the only place I use Silicone adhesive. An easy install, and allows float with clean follow up maintenance if required.

The surfaces that will be mounted to vary greatly...
Wallpaper on wood
Aluminum
Vinyl covered aluminum
Wood
I thought that we couldn't use the silicone on aluminum? Or does that only apply to bare aluminum? Painted or vinyl covered would be ok?

First off, I would use base shoe instead of quarter round because it is smaller. I actually usedshoe and cut it down to make it smaller- 5/16 " thick instead of 7/16. I think it looks better. I used 3/4" wire brads with a brad nailer for wood. See my thread for photos- dan's 66 tradewind improvements.

Don't use screws - way too bulky and unsightly. I sort of agree with Dan, 18ga brads shot with an air gun, but why use 3/4"? you need to grab at least 3/8" minimum beyond the depth of the base shoe, preferably 1/2" or more for secure attachment. I have a finish carpenter friend who is a big fan of 2 sided tape, but only as a method to temporarily attach a difficult piece. I wouldn't install a finish piece using an adhesive unless it's the only way to get it to stay in place.
Just my 2c, and worth every penny.

I don't think wire brads will work. They need to go through the pine 1/4 round and hold into the aluminum.
I already bought, cut, stained and sealed the 1/2" quarter round so it is staying. Well check out the other stuff next time around.
I went to home depot and got the 3m double sided tape. I am going to give it a try. If it doesn't stay, I only lose $15. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi, if you are going to use double sided tape, only use the one with the red plastic protector with the gray/black tape; [automotive type] Do not use the one with the green protector with a white tape. [home type]

I used a brad nailer. Working great!
The tape will work.. It will capture the dust bunnies just fine.
Problem with tape.... It takes up space so you will always see a bit I of it when lining from above, if taped to side. You will red tape the whole length or things will get captured.
Or use tape after routing a shallow groove for it to sit in the shoe molding.

I pre-drilled the wood trim and used very small screws. Seems to hold up fine, and its been two years

You might try try trim screws, available at lowes, home depot, etc. Square drive is superior to phillips heads. Available in various colors and material, e.g. stainless steel, galvanized, etc. As others have said, shoe mold will flex easier than 1/4 round. Good luck!
