Allure Traffic Master Vinyl Plank Flooring

I just finished putting the Allure Vinyl Plank flooring in the tin can. We used the type with the grip-strip. It was easy to install, to cut simply scribe and break. A box cutter can be used for intricate cuts. We are really happy with the results.

Skatiero, you are in a similar climate to us and with kids. Do you have any issues with the allure separating and the joints getting dirty?

Looks really good and matches the existing woodwork! Which color did you choose?
I just got some Allure samples today. I picked the oak and cork, but we can not decide which we want.

We have had only a very tiny bit of shifting. We have used it in houses as well as Airstreams. The patterns we chose for our Airstreams so far were teak and edge maple. We have been thoroughly happy with both. We also put cork and gunstock oak in house applications. It's just great stuff. You can see photos in our thread about our 1986 excella remodel.

Did you attach directly to the subfloor?

When I was considering replacing the vinyl in my late model trailer, Allure was the product I thought most attractive and "DYI" friendly. But, as I recall, the manufacturer did not recommend installation in non-climate controlled spaces. I expect we see 10-100 degree F swings in our area. I backed off on the installation; but, would appreciate any feedback on their experience with temperature swings. If you experience a problem, is there a fix?

We used the Allure bamboo in our "78" Ambassador. It was easy to install and looked great upon completion. We live in Western PA with some pretty wild temperature swings. To be honest, I'm disappointed with the separation...which seems to occur end to end. Quite a few seams opened up after the first Winter and did not close up. I'm getting ready to put flooring in another trailer and will likely look at marmoleum this time around.

I just went in my daughter's Avion to check if it leaked over the winter. We installed Allure flooring in it last winter/spring. It looked great through the summer/fall. However, after this really cold winter here in NW Indiana, it has separated end to end in a lot of places, just like Roadrunner's did. I'm SUPER BUMMED!!! Not only for her, but for myself as well. I just finished installing it in my own trailer about a month ago. I'm really bummed that Bob's didn't move back into place when it warmed up again. CRAPOLA!!

What a bummer! We have had a tiny bit of shifting in one area but that's it, very happy with the product overall.

Probably because you don't have as extreme cold in Georgia as up here. I wih I knew this earlier... :-(

Becky after several years our Allure has not drawn back together. I really didn't want to pull it all up so the obvious solution was to fill the gaps. While not the best option, I went to Lowe's and bought a small tube of synthetic wood filler. It's available in many shades and I was able to find one that matched the bamboo floor. It is better than the alternative. Like you I was pretty disappointed...

I installed the Allure in my 25' Safari about 2 1/2 years ago. I ran from the rear bedroom, through the galley, and past the entrance door. I made sure that it could float on the subfloor by not attaching to the subfloor and leaving a small amount of room around it to expand and contract. I used 1/4 round moulding and some other carpet-to-vinyl plank molding to finish the edges so the expansion/contractions gaps are covered. The trailer spent most of its' time in north central Tennessee. So it has not seen extreme temperatures. But it has had nights in the single digits and days in 100 degree plus. No problems at all with it.

I'm glad I read this before we installed our new flooring. We bought this thinking it would be perfect but it seems like it doesn't like extreme temperature changes.

This is how it looks. The two left planks aren't under anything for the length of the trailer. She'll may have to fill them come summer...good suggestion. I'm just going to hold my breath & hope it doesn't happen to mine!

It seems like this product works well for those of us in a mild clement. I did our entire 25 FB with the vinyl product and have had zero problems.

I did purposely install it on a cooler day (60 degrees) so the product was in a more shrunken state. My logic for this was when it gets warmer it will expand into the gaps I left around the edges, however it would probably not shrink up much more on colder days since it went in cold.

For those of you who are having gap issues with your floor, what temperature did you install your flooring? Warmer or cooler side of average in your area?

If a shoe or quarter round is used to cover the expansion space at the perimeter and it is nailed down through the floor material, the floor is not allowed to contract or expand properly. When the floor contracts the nails through the flooring will not let it move at the perimeter, so it pulls apart somewhere in the middle. The same can happen if cabinets or seats are fastened through the floor.

Those nails must be placed perfectly, so that they occur within the expansion space, with none through the flooring.

We installed last winter/ spring, but acclimated the flooring inside the trailer with the temp at around 65-70 I would guess. Maybe we should have kept it cooler....who knows..... It doesn't have any corner round holding it down.... :-(.

We really like this flooring so I think were going to instal it and do our best to leave room for expansion and contraction.

Ditto Becky...acclimated ours and installed in the Fall when temps were cooler. Left quarter of an inch around the flooring and covered with rope molding. My guess is that the glue is so aggressive that once the gap develops, it will not push itself back. If I lived in a warmer climate I would use it again. In talking with HD where we purchased our Allure, they stated this is not to be used in trailer applications where there are temp extremes.
