88 excella 31ft, replacing floor

Hey guys, just joined the community. I know there is some floor rot in the rear room and I want to replace the carpet with bamboo or some hard wood. If i have to repair the sub floor what kind of job am I looking at and overall what are the basic steps for this? I am full timing so cant afford to rip it to pieces or mess it up either. Thanks guys, I look forward to bugging yall with all my questions =)

Tim

Are you towing or is it parked?

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

Do all the maintenance. The damage is not the problem, the damage is the symptom. Seal the seams, check for loose or missing rivets (my trailer had 5 missing rivets under the awning roller), replace the sewer vent gaskets, replace the roof vent gaskets, replace the window and door gaskets, and seal the awning mounts and top tail with Vulkem 116 (Home Depot or Lowes).

Then make it livable with a removable overlay floor. My .02 :-) Good luck!

I definitely plan on doing the repairs as I get some free time, which I will likely be asking more questions at that time. What is a removable overlay floor?

"bamboo or some hard wood" like you mentioned. Maybe with a 1/4 or 3/8 plywood underlayment. Don't glue or nail anything if possible so it could be repaired properly someday if you want to make it road worthy.

Oh ok, cool. I'll be moving it every few years, would that flooring be ok for that or does it need to be glued down before moving it once? What are the advantages/disadvantages between the two?

Oh and I should have specified this, a tree fell on the back left corner and damaged 4 panels, which is the location of the leak. I plan on repairing them but was told the leak has been fixed. Can I get those panels and rivets from an airstream dealer?
