Will new shocks or upgraded shocks help an older axle with some wear?

Sorry, no. Some will debate the necessity of shocks on a torsion axle, but bottom line is if your axles are shot, then you need to replace them. If you've got the originals on your '66 then you can pretty much guarantee their shot.

Search (upper right menu bar on your screen) "axle" and you will find a lot of good threads on axle replacement... ease of installment, costs, process, etc.

oh yeah - welcome to the forums and good luck on your project.

Thumbs up 1966 safary

You will have put in new shocks when you replace the axel so you are not wasting your money when you buy them now or later.

I also have a '66 Safari and had the new axle --and shocks-- installed last summer. She sits higher, with no sag and rides like a "dream" now. The new shocks and new axle definitely are recommended.

Good luck.........please post inside and outside pics....please,please,please
