Shock absorber information

I have owned five A/S trailers and two A/S motor homes. I presently own a '99 pusher which is in the shop for regular service while I am recuperating from back surgery. I researched the specs.for the shocks on a '79 Airstream trailer that I once owned. When you cut the fully extended shock in half, you will find the piston and cylinder is only about 3/4" in diamiter. The valves are in the piston and have two different release pressures. The one that operates when the shock is closing, the other when the shock is opening. So when you look at a shock you are only looking at the outer wall off the reservoir. MOOG helped with the information that I gathered to get a slightly heavier shock when extended and contacted. It did make the differance that I was looking for. N.A.P.P.A. sells MOOG shocks and the special shock mounting bolts. I used their 800#. All the info. that I still have is in my M/H aprox 150 miles from here. Hope this helps. Nye
