Rattle from shock absorbers
Does anyone else have a rattling sound coming from the shock absorber outer casing rattling against the inner piston when rolling over bumps or rocks at slower speeds?? I notice it most when I'm driving in a campground with my window open and I can hear the shocks rattling as I go over small bumps in the road.

I have never heard a shock rattle!! I imagine that you are hearing stones in your hubs. If the shocks rattled they would be totally destroyed. Have someone drive it while you are beside the trailer and listen close.

What happens is, the outer dust shell comes loose from the shock piston, and will rattle. While it won't hurt anything, short-term, it would be a good idea to replace it.

Thanks Overlander63, that's what I've been hearing, but I didn't know how common it was. Planning on replacing all 6 this Spring.
But I did find a second problem while checking out the rattle. I also have two "Nev-R-Lub" caps that come off over time and rattle inside the wheel hub cap cover.
I take off the tire and push them back on and they eventually come back off.
Any solutions for tightening up the "Nev-R-Lub" caps to help keep them on????

The only "rattle" we hear when slow rolling...the little balls in the centramatic wheel balance rings.
Are you so equipped?

No centramatic balancing rings.

Some of my 6 shocks rattle. I've learned to live with it...

A couple of drops of BLUE Loctite on the flange that goes into the hub should do the trick. Make sure you mention it to the guy that takes your brake drums off, for obvious reasons.

Electric brakes or Dexter Disc brakes? If Disc, the pads do not fit well into the calipers. They rock back and forth in the caliper and create a rattle. I only hear it with the windows down and low speeds. It goes away when the brakes are lightly applied. Dexter knows about this and I was a "field tester" for two different anti-rattle clips they were developing. Neither worked and I gave up calling them. This was about 5 years ago.
