64 Globetrotter shock mounts bad?

I've been reading the shock absorber threads, considering having new ones in stalled on my 64 Globetrotter. On inspecting them them, though, I wonder if I should leave them alone until I am ready to change the axle. The left one, in particular, is worrisome, with external brackets mounted to keep it in place.

My local RV guy is capable and hasn't done me wrong yet, but I can't afford the money or time for this to turn into a major axle replacement, which I would rather have done by someone more familiar with Airstreams.

Looking at the attached photos, does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should have the shocks replaced or leave well enough alone for now? Thanks!

Your axle looks original, you might as well wait until you replace the axle and do all the work at once.
New shocks won't do you much good with old and hard riding axles.
