1973 Argosy 20 Ft shocks

What kind of replacement shocks can I use for my 20 ft Argosy? The originals are Delco Pliacell 4975425. Where do I get new ones ?

Ken

Inland RV

Call Inland RV. They have the shocks you need. I bought 4 for my Argosy last year.

If you want the OE shocks, any airstream dealer has them. If you would like a shock that has been used by many Airstreamers for many years try the Monroe 555003. They sell them at many auto parts stores. The price for both the OE shock and the Monroe is about the same.

Greetings, Ken, and welcome to the forums! As you've already discovered, Airstreamers are about the most forthcoming folks there are for info about your rig!

Gas and/or typical hydraulic shocks are meant to be used in a vertical or near vertical position.

Monroe shock company says their shock reduces aeration. Used in a horizontal position, aeration can and does increase, which results in less effectiveness.

The Gabriel hydraulic shock, has "zero" aeration. The Gabriel shock was specially designed by Gabriel to be used by Airstream in a horizontal position.

Therefore the Monroe shock cannot be properly used in a horizontal position.

Gabriel is the ONLY manufacturer of a true horizontal shock.

Gabriel is the only shock that can properly be used on the 1968 Airstream models on up.

Monroe shock info

This week I was involved in a lot of talk about the correct shocks for an AS. I contacted Monroe and asked if the gasmatic they offered would work in a horizontal application on my AS. The following is a copy of the response I recieved. I always admit when I am wrong!
Thank you for contacting Tenneco Automotive. No they are not. Must be
mounted vertical.

If the shocks are mounted in a more vertical position there are many choices. TOP lists a Monroe relacement number that I have used.

If the shocks are mounted in a near horizontal position then an Airstream dealer near you (In Ohio there should be many) would be the place to go.
