Yellow Shower Stall, how to restore

The vinyl or plastic shower stall and light covers in our 1980 Excella are yellow. Anyway to get them back to white?

Also, about this Castrol Super Cleaner, can you use it on everything but the outside of the trailer?

Thanks,

Alice Crane

Hi Alice, The Super Clean will stain the clear coat and it will etch bare aluminum. I did use the Super Clean to clean the Zoloatone on the inside. It did a great job of getting 40 yrs of grease and cig smoke off of the walls. It didn't seem to harm the finish at all. I don't reccomend letting it sit for very long as it is a very strong cleaner/degreaser.

As for the shower stall, you might be able to clean it up to a lighter yellow. I had to have mine re-gelcoated. ( $$ ) It does look great now though.

I would buy new light covers.

I have not tried the Super Cleaner but sure would give it a try. We have used Mean Green and it too works great on the sticky walls. Even better than Simple Green.
I will get a bottle of that Super Clean and try it too.
As for the yellowing, there is an interesting thread going about one of the POR 15 products that I am interested in as well.

Castrol super clean is very strong cleaner ,seriousely strong ,be careful
on what you spray it on .Works great on the zolatone because that coating
is super tuff durable material. It can damage car paint ,etch aluminum as
was posted ,I don't think the plastic shower stall is dirty ,but yellowing of plastic ,old plastic is common .It happens to all of those old antique table
radios made of plastikon ,an early type of plastic ,they started out as white.
many airstream baths made of white are now yellow or correctly yellowed.
It needs to be painted or ? with a top coat of white .thats a tough one .
but everyone be careful with the super clean ,its not like simple green .
It was an automotive cleaner for grease originally.

I tried super-clean on the plastic bath fixtures. It doesn't really help w/ the yellowing...if anything, it might actually make it worse. (I figured that it already looks like crap, so there's no harm in trying it to see what it does). It does react w/ the plastic. I sprayed it on a test area, and let it sit, and could see the colors changing. the staining that it created seemed to fade some after rinsing it off, but I do think it made a "permanent" change...not a good thing. since I'll have to paint or resurface the whole thing anyhow, there was no great harm done.
