Winterizing - mousproofing

Just purchased a 69 Sovereign 31 and found evidence of habitation by mice. Although the dealer cleaned in the interior pretty well, we're wondering what everyone is doing to prevent these guys from coming in.

1. Obviously, we'll check for any holes, although this isn't easy. Are there common places where mice get in during the off season?
2. Any luck with "Bounce" fabric softener strips placed around?
3. We have dogs and are not liking the idea of poison at all.
4. Mothballs stink.

Any suggestions? Thanks much ahead of time and hope to meet some of you this next year.

Forget Bounce

We just recently exhausted the Bounce topic in this thread:

I even, for fun, put mouse traps on top of bounce sheets and caught mice. As of last week we caught six mice with traps. We put an equal amount of the old wood and wire traps and the all gray plastic "Better" mouse traps that Target sells in our trailer. Every mouse was caught with the plastic ones. The plastic traps are easier to set with a pinch to open and have more of a hair trigger.

Also, Welcome!

I see that was your first post to the forum. Welcome fellow Minnesotan. We are going to have to start a thread sometime as to where to put our kayaks when on the road with our Airstreams.

Meeses, meeses everywhere

I was the one who originated the Bounce thread and was sorry it didn't work out since we are not real close to our trailer and it is pretty much out in a field where those little stinkers like to play!! Anyway, I recently came across a book written about getting rid of many kinds of rodents (including squirrels, possums and beaver)!! and it said that mice don't like the smell of peppermint! I am willing to try, so bought several bottles of peppermint extract and will try putting some on cotton balls in various part of trailer. I may even put some in an open container of some sort and leave on the floor. What the heck!!!! Leigh
