Where to buy a curved bed

I want a real bed in the front of my 1972 Overlander. I don't want to sleep on cushions. Can you buy a quality mattress to fit the front curve? I've seen a few online but am confused on which radius will fit. We plan on building a box frame to place it on.

We just ordered a new mattress from CamperPedic. They do custom cuts. They may need a pattern for anything too unusual though. We checked out their samples at a local RV dealership and really liked their "Cozy Collection" mattress. Here is their website:

Memory foam mattresses are very easy to cut. No need to pay extra to store.

I have been considering a memory foam mattress. I contacted the company directly about their product. I ask if cutting the mattress to shape would effect the 20 year warranty. Their response was that it would void the warranty.

Our Foam Mattress cost $300 (Local foam fabricator with sales outlet). I cut it with a kitchen bread knife. Not sure what a warranty would do for me! It was a whole lot less than a new AS mattress, plus we got a full width double not the skinnied down narrow version of most RVs at 48"or 52" We could have provided the template to the factory and they would cut it for us....extra charge. Going my self meant I could match both the curve and the sloping wall. Fitted sheets don't stay on worth a darn!

They do custom memory foam matresses for Airstreams and RV's. I have not used them but other Airstreamers on the Forum have.

I will be ordering a memory foam mattress from Amazon this evening for my wife. We will be cutting it to follow the shape of the existing mattress.

We sleep on a memory foam pad that was cut for our 64' GT and it is better than or home mattress, its hard to get out of bed in the mornings.

You could order sheets of foam online and cut it yourself with an electric knife. That way, you get exactly what you want as dad as firmness, thickness, etcetera. We bought both memory foam and latex foam for our twin beds from foamfactory.com.

We recently had Rocky Mountain Mattress make one for our Airstream. They got the dimensions from Airstream based on our VIN Number. It fit perfectly. We've been sleeping on it for the last 9 nights and, so far, are very pleased.

Previously, we had Verlo make a custom mattress for us. while it fit well and was quite comfortable, it was very heavy.

Have one made for you, try Foam N' More And Upholstery, Michigan USA they did a great job for us, the did a great job on make a zipper cover, you won' t go wrong with this company.

We cut a foam mattress with an electric knife then replaced the mattress cover that the mattress came with and trashed the original mattress. It has been great for 3 years now. We used the same foam mattress that we had at home so we knew it was comfortable.

This is where I got my mattress about 6 yrs ago. Expensive?? YES!! $1.6K with tax. But it saved my back. My choice was going to the chiropractor every week or buying a really good mattress. I bought the mattress. No regrets.

BTW - Today, I see the chiropractor every 12 to 18 months.

They build custom mattresses for expensive yachts. I found them at the Seattle Boat Show.

You will need to provide them with a template.

We had the 8" Rocky Mountain mattress made for both the 25FB queen and the twin beds in the Classic. The 600 thread sheets from Airstream are designed to fit their stock mattress which is 7" but they were a sloppy fit but on the 8" mattress the fit is proper.

With the Classic twin beds, we probably should have ordered either the 9" or 10" mattress as there was adequate height space and made it about 4" longer to properly fill the space and not had the gap at the back of the trailer where the radius is located. Then the sheets would have had to come from Rocky Mountain Mattress.
