How do I weigh this Hide-a-bed...solo?

I want to "acurately" weigh a hide-a-bed. I will be alone and certainly cannot pick it up and hold it while I step on a scale.
If I could I would not be able to read the scale anyway.

I will have only one scale. (bathroom step upon style).

I also might want to try this in a Furniture store showroom sometime. So I will not be able to rig up any large base plate etc.

Obviously I am asking as the Hide-a-Bed might go into an Airstream.
But if there is a method for weighing large things it would be a great tip to know for other items. like a bed or a refer or a camel.

I have considered the one leg times 4 method but have my doubts that is an accurate method.

Go to a site that sells furniture like "Overstocked.com" and look at an item similar. Then find out what the shipping weight is. Usually the specs will tell you what you have to pay to ship it or what it weighs. That should be pretty close. You could also contact the manufacturer and see if they can give you a good guess.

I've balanced chairs and sofas on bathroom scales before to weigh them. You may have to have an assistant actually look at the numbers, as you will be too busy holding the sofabed steady.

Get 4 bathroom scales, and two partners. Weigh the two who are going to be holding the sofa. Spread two comfortably apart on each end of the sofa that way you do not have to balance on a single one, one for each leg. Have the 3rd person go around and read all the weights. Add them all up and subtract off the weight of the two that held the scale. Violin, there you have it.

Guess I missed your one man scale method. Get three spacers the same height as the scale. Put the scale on one corner, and the three spacers on the others. Work your way around the bed with the scale and add up the weights. That will get you close. I like the shipping weight, idea also.
