What is This?
I was wondering if anybody knows what this is?
I thought it was just something that a previous owner had put in for a decoration or something. Then I was watching a video about Airstreams and it appeared to have one in it as well. And it appeared to be in about the same location. The picture is from a 1974 Ambassador.
Thanks

It looks like the gas lamp in my brothers 67 Ambassador. We have a 66 Tradewind also, but not the lamp.

I agree that it's a gas lamp, but not a Paulin-Humphrey like in mine.

It's the propane powered gas lamp.

My 75 Tradewind had 2 of those exact lamps. One in the same location as your picture and another in the bathroom.

Wow... a gas lamp.
My 66 tradewind doesn't have that either.
I don't have any pics of the lighting in the bathroom, but I will have to check and see if I can get one to see if there is one in there also.
Anything special that needs to be done so that it is operational?
I am in the process of purchasing this Ambassador.

Do you know how to work a Coleman gas lantern with a fabric mantle? Same basic principle. There should be a lever that switches the gas on and off. Put a new mantle on and light it per the instructions on the package. Replace the glass globe/shade and then turn on the gas and light the mantle.

Do you use the same Mantles that go on the Coleman Lanterns or are there special ones for these lamps?

I use the Coleman type on mine. They work just fine.

I have a gas lantern in my 66 Safari. Never have used it but like the look. Do they put out much heat? I have wondered if it would discolor the ceiling.

Original Veritas Propane Lamp
It should have a heat shield to spread the heat out and to diffuse it from discoloring the ceiling. We use ours all the time and it does give off a considerable amount of heat plus a nice soft light. In fact, this past weekend, we left ours on all night to ward off the mid-20 degree evening temps.

When I get it home I will have to go through it and see if I can find a heat shield of some sort. When I 1st saw it, I really didn't pay it much attention thinking it was some kind of decoration. I will hopefully be able to bring it home in the next few weeks.

I believe I see the heat shield in the picture. It is sitting just above the curved lens, following its profile.

I hope it is there. I'm sure it would take a little bit to get parts for that.
