What do you use for a dish drying rack?

We're redoing the kitchen and putting in a single bowl sink. I was hoping to find a counter-top style drying rack that can be stowed away when not in use. I've found these on Amazon:

Does anyone have something like one of these and like it? Or, do you have something that's even better?

I have the one from Progressive - got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It works well and folds up pretty flat. I use it with a drainer tray underneath it to catch the drips.

I have to admit that I've never tried either one.

Dish Rack one looks like it wouldn't have any parts that would rust. However-it doesn't seem to hold as many dishes or glasses as drainer number two. Reviews say you must pick it up to drain the water out.

Dish Rack two looks like it holds more dishes and glasses also. I have had problems in the past with plastic coated wire-plastic coating cracks then wire rusts. Looks like you put the lip of the drain board over the sink edge and it drains into the sink. That is a plus

The bottom line is-What does Andrea think?

Andrea thinks that neither of them is exactly what I'm looking for. They would work but I'm not loving them.

I have a double sink in the galley. I found a dish rack that will fit inside one of the sinks. It will hold just enough dishes for 2 after a meal. I store it in the sink when traveling. If I remember right; I got it at Wal Mart in the RV section.

It's a different approach, but we just stopped using a rack after our last one got rusty. We just spread a dishtowel out and lay the dishes on that. It works well and the towel never gets rusty.

I also just use a dish towel. If I don't have time to leave them out to dry, I do it the old fashioned way and towel dry.

I'm beginning to think that might be the best way for me to go. It's simple, it's easy, and it folds up nicely when not in use.

Last time I looked at the price tag on a drain rack it gave me pause, $20 for a thing to dry dishes?? I could buy wine with that $20.

I bought mine at Ikea, it's white molded plastic (no rust and light) it is two piece, one slides into the other. So it fits exactly between the edge of the counter and the sink on my 73 Tradewind counter. If I expand it, it doubles in size, and fits on the fold up counter to the sink. This is what I do as well. The best part about using a dish towel is that it has more than one use.

I just set the dishes on the table to drip a bit, dry them with the dishtowel, and then wipe down the table to clean and dry it. Done--------- no extra parts and pieces......... and no dripped on dishtowel.

We wash the dishes in tubs outside. One with soap and one clean water and then we use a towel. Since we have a Bambi with one sink, it's easier.

Hi, These might not work for you, but are great in our trailer. I oringinally bought two of the plastic tubs for inside of my twin sinks, but later replaced one of the tubs for the dish rack. I removed the drip tray because we keep it in the sink. Wal-Mart or Target sells these.

We use the Dish Drainer from Ikea seen in its folded position on stove below.

We place it on a towel on the bed or L-Lounge when washing dishes.

Being always-space-challenged, we don't use nor want to store a dishrack. We have been draining briefly on a dishtowel, hubbie then dries and puts away.

We have just picked up one of those highly absorbent microfiber mats from BB&B, which we're going to try out this next trip. It is about the same size as a dishtowel, but should absorb differently and dry more quickly. We'll see.

I'll be interested to see how well it works.

We bought a little tiny (825 sqft) bungalow house a few years ago, it's gorgeous with loads of original woodwork/hardwood floors/tiny galley kitchen, so we've been getting good at using less and less stuff and working in small spaces. We actually switched to using a dish towel as a drain rack in our house, we just didn't have room for a real rack. I think we'll be able to manage pretty well in an AS when we get one.
