We want to recline too

At the 2009 Can Opener, Norsea and Chief showed us how they incorporated one or two euro recliners into their trailers. That was all it took for us. After some thought we started our project. The attached photos are of the interior as we started. The only thing in view that is not original is the Konnecto flooring.

Oops, hit a wrong button. Now the progress will be in a couple of posts. As you can see in the pics, I did not run the Konnecto under the sofa. Never thought about what would happen if I wanted to make a change. Note the mass of wiring, quite a mess.

Obviously much work to be done but here is where we are now. Very lucky that AS had the sofa fabric in stock so we could make a new arm rest. Inside the arm rest is the 12 volt panel and master battery switch. The converter is under the sofa with lots of ventilation. Also plenty of ventilation inside the arm rest (from the rear). We had to go back with carpet because re-weaving Konnect flooring is very difficult.

Once we have the recliner in, we will figure out how to finish around the other battery box, hide the exposed wires and maybe add a shoe storage cabinet at the door. Sorry this took so many posts.

Looking Good!

Greg,

Project is coming along nicely. I really like what you have done with the new armrest, and the dining table. This is going to look great when you have it finished.......wish I had your woodworking skills.

Hey Michael. Hope all is well with you.

It is a euro style. This is what Chief has in his trailer so I figured it is good enough for us plus we sat in his and it passed the comfort test. The site says their pictures are copyrighted so I'll post the link.

Benchmaster Ventura Recliner 7036

Should have the recliner by Wednesday, then I can move forward with enclosing the battery box. Depending on how much room is remaining I may make a small cabinet to fit behind the recliner.

Chief, thanks for the compliment and the lead on the chair. Pictures do cover up errors quite well .

We ordered the recliner on Wednesday and, unexpectedly, it arrived today thanks to FedEx. There are still some minor things to finish but basically the project is complete. Here are the before and after pics. We will probably make a cabinet/shoe storage area to the right of the recliner. There is a significant area behind the recliner that may become storage as well.

Greg, you do good work! After seeing Chief's excellent recliner modifications and handiwork at the CanOpener, Linda thought about doing to our trailer exactly what you just did. Of course, I have a lot of other things to do on my list but we are really looking forward to seeing your trailer at the Springstream.

Last pic I promise

Finally finished this afternoon. We have really enjoyed our trailer but the seating arrangement left something to be desired. We just never could get comfortable. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

I'm sure we can arrange a test seating at Hiawassee. Beware, if she likes it, its project time!!

Greg,

It looks great!!!

We never thought about relocating the sofa. It looks great and you still have room by the door for a storage unit with shelves for shoes.

Great job!

Jim

Thanks for the compliment. We almost did two recliners but I really like to lay on the couch when I watch TV ( or nap or whatever) so this was a good compromise. Thanks again for the pics you sent. I was ready to relocate the curb side battery box until I saw how it worked with your recliners.

Safe travels.

Couldn't resist

After much thinking we decided to keep the cabinet that previously held the Zip Dee chairs. We did not want to lose the table. Yesterday, I cut the cabinet/table width down. It is still wide enough for a laptop or to eat at. On the cabinet top I added a rail so keys, phones, etc. will not fall off (happened a lot when the trailer door was slammed). Inside the cabinet are shelves just wide enough to stack 4 shoes vertically. And last, I added a holder for an adult beverage . Now I want some vintage AS nameplates to screw to the wall to the left of the cabinet. They will cover the holes left from reducing the cabinet width. This project should last me for awhile.

Recliners for 25" Safari

I added two euro style recliners to our 08 25" Safari to replace the sleeper sofa. I have a bad back and could only take a few minutes on that sofa before I was very uncomfortable. It is only two of us traveling so we did not need the extra bed. I left the sofa end compartments in place for now for extra storage space. I may end up taking them out also but we will see how they work out. The chairs are very comfortable and fit the space well. We will look for a table to fit in between the recliners. My battery box is external on the hitch so this Mod was very easy to do.

Hello fellow Mississippian. Nice looking mod and you have a lot of room. Personally I think leaving the old armrests looks good and extra storage space is always good. I suspect LuckyDucks will be looking at this as his wife (Linda) wants something similar in their 25' Classic.

Safe travels

Thanks Roadtoaster,

My wife and I really like the Byhalia area and have contemplated retiring up there.
