Mark (quality parts) should be posting what he needs in order to duplicate. If he can, will solve my need.

I've seen these chairs come up on ebay. I'll bet it'd be more cost effective than custom building them...unless you are "in" with a woodworker.

I am redoing the interior of my 2001 Excella. For health reasons I need to replace synthetics and plastics such as carpet, upholstery and padding, vinyl, etc. The ZipDee chairs are also out and I need to use some kind of wood chairs. I may be able to manufacture reproductions of the Airstream wood chair in the wood products department of my company. George Jr suggested that someone in the forum may be able to post a picture of the chairs so I would know whether to proceed. If it looks promising, I will request more specific dimensions. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mark

quality mark,

I can send my chair to your shop if you want to inspect it. It folds flat enough to fit in a manageable box. Return it when you're finished. I can live without it gor a few weeks....
The chair itself is a very simple design. The metal folding mechanism, however, is rather complicated and would be difficult to duplicate.
PM me the address if you want to go for it. I think hands on beats a thousand pictures.

If price is not a "killer", I will want two. If we get enough response, we can share in cost. Assuming it can be duplicated.

Wooden folding chairs

I noticed a couple listings for "leg-o-matic folding chairs on ebay this afternoon. Is that the same chair? There were several styles, different backs especially. They ranged in price from $10 to $80.

wooden chairs on ebay

Thanks Shari: A pair with cane backs just sold for $36 plus shipping. Do you know if the ones sold in A/S stores all had the same back design or was there a variety?
uwe: Lets wait before sending your chair. If I can get a pair that cheap for a sample, its hardly worth risking damage to your original chair to send it to the shop. I will try to pick up a chair on ebay to use for a sample of the mechanism, dimensions, etc. The wood in my Excella is red oak so would probably try to duplicate that wood for my chairs. Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

If anyone has a picture of one of these chairs I would like to see it, PLEASE? My dad is retired and a woodworker, mom is looking for projects to keep him out of the house and a couple of chairs like these would give him something to do for a least a month Besides I need a Christmas present

Here is a link to a company that sells folding chairs, similar to the old "leg-o-matic"
http://www.homedecorators.com/search...irs&subcat=ALL
But they are a bit pricey, but given the condition of some of the ones I have seen on ebay and the fact that the older ones are getting brittle with age...

Here's a picture from a recent ebay listing. As mentioned, they came with different backs and wood finishes. Search "Leg-o-matic" on ebay in both current and completed auctions to see other examples.

Wooden chair

wahoonc: I just bought a leg o matic on Ebay from a dealer in Hardeeville SC. Is that far from you? I just wanted to get it to have dimensions and design for the metal parts of the mechanism. You could pick it up or I could have them ship it to you so your Dad could look at it. Then you could send to me later. If interested, pm your address and I will send it to you. You can see the chair at this address. Ebay address for folding chair

Quality parts,
Hardeeville, SC is about 6 hours from me But thanks for the offer! I think with the pictures and the dimensions we can come up with a working model. Finding or deciding what is the right type of hardware will be the fun part. Check out the ones on the link that I posted, I have done folding chairs before using the "roto-hinges" they are pretty neat and easy to work with, you just drill a hole and glue it in. We are redoing the inside color scheme on our 78 from the orange/yellow and green to something a little more subtle.

Shari,
Thanks for the pictures I ran a search on ebay this morning using the words "legomatic" but it didn't come up with much but then again that was BC (before coffee )

wood chairs

Use 'leg-o-matic' for your search. There should still be at least two listings on Ebay

Try this...

Leg-o-matic search on ebay.

Also, be sure to scroll down and check out the completed auctions to see some of the various back styles.
