Wanted Dinette - moved Gaucho and built one!
Hello Everyone,
I did not like dining on the couch next to my partner. As well, we love to play games and cards and doing it side-by-side was a pain. Plus, I hated the view from the couch - a black hole into the back of the camper - now we have windows and the door to look out of - I just love this renovation!
After hours of sitting in the camper imagining and thinking, I came up with this:
1. remove curbside livingroom cabinets and swing-up table.
2. turn couch in-line with sink and stove.
3. box-in battery boxes and converter stuff that was under the couch.
4. create a window seat/dinette seat.
5. move the location of the second swing-up table closer to the window-seat/dinette seat.
6. Move the folding shelf on the stove to be flush with the front edge so I can still use it.
I have done these things and am just waiting for the foam (ordered) - I ordered High Quality 5" thick - enough to re-upholster the couch (gaucho) and the new window seat.
Here is what it looks like - the gaucho still makes a bed. I've got a little more to do on it - the little blue bench was purchased at the Goodwill for $10 - I'm going to put a shelf under the seat on the cross pieces to make a shoe rack and I'm trying to work out how to make a back for it that will swing up to make the back and swing down (point at the floor) when we want to use the bench to put on our shoes.
I put a removable top on it with a separate piece of luan to attach the upholstery to - I'll use velcro to make it stick down and attach under the lip in the front. I have to be able to access everything underneath.
I'm pretty proud of myself - the only thing I'm not happy with is the way the cupboard door (from the removed cabinets) opens - hard to get stuff out - I may change the hinges to the side.

Looks like a nice improvement. I have also thought the side by seating at the fold up table could be better.

Sooper!!!
GREAT work Liz,
You definitely have the skills needed to complete the other concerns and make that AS your own. Congrats.

I love it. Can't wait to try it on my next project Airstream project.

Liz...great job! It seems to make good use of the existing space and give you a good view as well. Keep up the good work!

Good news! The foam arrived yesterday (how did they get so much into such a small package!). I'm heading over to Brian's cousin's upholstery shop for the foam knife. I'll keep updating this post as I make progress. Got the upholstery fabric at JoAnn Fabric for $3.50/yd on sale! It is tropical tapestry with palm leaves and other leaves on a light background.

Update!
Hi all!
I just used one of the two tables that were already in the camper (1992 Excella) - I've got another I could sell/trade if you are interested.
Updating my progress - I took the gaucho and new window seat cushion to the upholstery shop on Tuesday - should have it back in about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. That will be just in time for my last camping trip which will be the Anniversary and Chili Cook-off at the Findley State Park in Ohio.....can't wait to try it out!
I'll post pictures when I get it back into the camper.

I was reading my first post and found an error - I removed the STREET side cabinets, not the curb side (door side). That is where I have an extra table available from.......

Actually, both tables were the same (makes no sense to me). Both open out to make a big table......I still might have your table!

I thought I'd add the pictures of the job done. I sold this camper and have a new one but the job turned out awesome!
