Vista window shade removal

Can anyone tell me how to properly remove the Vista window shades out so they can be cleaned and repainted?
Thanks in advance

Well, the only way to remove them completely is to losen the interior skin and slide them out. That means drilling out rivets. Not a big deal, but it can intimidate you if you've never done it before.

Here's a picture that mostly shows the vista view shade housing. Notice that the slides extend up inside the skin. Figured this might give you an idea of how many rivets you'll need to drill out around the window to get the shade out of the slides.

Do a little searching and you'll find good info - Panama Red's thread - here - has a discussion about the shades - you'll know more about them if you're talking about the early '70's trailers. I think Red's the expert nowadays...

i watched a DIY video and they just removed the shade that goes up and down.i didnt see them pop rivets anywhere but of course they didnt show the entire step. they made it look like you just pull down the vista shade and it will come out.i have removed the entire assembly before dismantling an airstream but didnt want are need to remove the entire unit. appreciate the info though i will just have to look into it more.
