Uncomfortable dinette area. Help

We do not like the cushions which overhang our base and the table is too high. Anyone have same problem? If so how did you fix it?

We have a 25fb with rear dinette. Table is a good height for the dinette seats. We had the dinette removed by the door and our dinette table cut down to allow a Lambright recliner to be installed. For eating I have to use a small cushion made from the Ultraleather from the cushions removed from the door side cushions to raise me a little from eating. The Lambright is great for watching TV and falling asleep in. I also work on the computer from the recliner.

We have a 2013 25FB (dinette similar to yours).

We got rid of all the cushions on the bench by the door. My wife installed a plywood seatback, angled and positioned the way she wanted. Then we had new cushions made for the seat base and back (we used a local upholstery company, not Airstream). This gets her sitting at the table at the right height. However, her feet are too far off the floor, so we keep a block of rigid foamboard on the floor under the dinette for use as a foot rest.

That still does not cover all conditions, so we also carry a folding chair that we often place at the end of the dinette.

I've never been in a travel trailer dinette that was "comfortable". There is an age old debate on these forums about the dinette. Dinettes are useful for making into additional sleeping areas. Our 86 Limited 34' has a dinette that is bolt upright, cramped and good for eating and card games, but not relaxing in my view. It makes into a bed.

Some folks remove the dinette entirely and install comfortable recliner chairs and a small table to hold a plate or bowl. These folks don't need the extra sleeping area.

Airstream has installed fold up tables where you can eat dinner on the lounge and maybe a side chair, and then fold the table down for relaxing in the evening. The lounge makes into a bed. Here is a photo of my old Overlander with such an arrangement. The table has another "leaf" and extend about half the with of the couch.

We did what KJRitchie did (and got some good advice from him) and removed the seating by the door and got a recliner. Then I built a table to replace the dinette. It works great for us. We didn't need the area for sleeping and it is much more comfortable seating!

I don't like dinettes either.
That's why I bought a 26U.
Right now I have half the table in and the other half stored.
I may put the larger half in to make eating easier.
Very versatile.

We removed the dinette and installed 2 recliners. I cut the table width down and mounted it on the floor with 2 removable legs and with a slight offset to accommodate different configurations. We spend little time eating so this works for us. We can still have 4 or 5 people by using chairs on the opposite side. The sofa bed is still useful and now folds out wider when the table is in the drop down position.

Sheez, seems many Airstreamers are finding the dinette seating very uncomfortable no matter which model. Hope Airstream sees these posts and will offer some modifications. A little tilt, a little wedge and some support should be simple to do. 🤞🏻

I have the international 30 with separate dinette and find it to be very comfortable. I sit with my computer at the table and my wife gets the 40 by 80 inch couch area ( open)
for herself. For sleeping purposes I purchased a 40x80 foam bed topper. Very comfortable.

The two recliner idea is a good one IMHO. I wanted to go that route as well but the furnace is located under the street side dinette seating area. Just curious about relocating the furnace. Where did you put it?

We didn't need to move the furnace. There is enough space if you keep the recliner on an angle. When I built the new top over the furnace for the remaining couch(see pic) I took a small angle cut off the corner to make it fit better and so both recliners could recline. Our recliners do not swivel. I am not sure if your 25FB has the furnace in a different space but you can see where ours is under that new top.

Same complaints regarding the dinette and the long sofa that seemed out of place. Attached are photos of what we did and so far..... we love it!

Kspan that looks amazing. Would you mind putting up a couple more pics. esp. perspective where you are standing in the hallway looking twords the door?

I'll have my wife see if there are any more that show a different angle but here is what I have that may help.

We did all the work ourselves using most of what was already there. We purchased a few materials, but we were able to reconstruct the bed using the pull out to expand the sofa into a bed. The counter works well for eating as well as for computer work while on the road. We took one of the night stands from the bedroom and used it at the end of the sofa. Are having a new nightstand built now to replace the one in the bedroom.

I REALLY like this. When I show this to Mrs. Too Tall she is going to want some changes.
