To Update or Not to Update.......

I just bought a 1968 Arion truck camper, c11 model. I think it could have great potential for some great updates but it appears to be in pretty good condition in the current state it is in as well. Any advice what to do? Modernize or leave in the original vintage state?

Welcome to the forums.
I'd probably refurbish and use as-is, until it starts looking shabby, then update.

It's really personal choice here. If the structure (shell, floor, frame) are in good shape, I'd update the inside and shine it up and seal the outside. But that's me. I like the old look with new stuff

I'd never seen one of those and didn't know Airstream made any slide-in campers.

Looks great. Congrats on the cool find.

Airstream didn't make them, I think they were made by Avion.

Smile wow

I would definitely shine her up and seal it as a first attack then I would use her to get a feel for what you need to do if anything for the next phase.
if you do too much to start you might not do the right thing.
you have a really wonderful piece of equipment there and it would be wrong to do too much too early and then kick yourself for doing it.
sorry for being redundant

it will not "shine up" as it is anodized aluminum. Clean and seal it. The anodizing is a gray color that protects the aluminum forever. Just kind of dull.

I hope you got the pickup too.

What a pair.

To my knowledge, Cayo made them.

Avion labled and sold them.

Regards,

JD

IIRC, Cayo and sons (2) made them as well as Avion when Cayo owned them. They still have all the sheet metal patterns in their shop up North of Coloma, MI. Their method of perserving and/or restoring the finish on the anodized aluminum was real simple. Scrub the outside with "Comet", wash with water, then laquer thinner, mask off the windows and tires, then spray a coat clearcoat on the exterior. The product they use is Permacote. The finish lasts about 5 years in the Texas sun and then you do i again. You know it needs a recoat when the finish losses its wet look. I had it done twice. See if you can contact the Avion Travel Club for more information.

Does anybody know where I can get a skylight replacement for my 1968 Avion? The MN winters were tough on the current skylight cover and it is cracked! Thanks in advance!!
