The Space over the Refrigerator

You can see that nice looking cabinet over the refrigerator. I have a 2010 27FB Classic and there is a blank piece of wood over the refrigerator.

Why doesn't the Classic have a cabinet up there?

Mine looks like this.

I have a 27fb flying cloud. There is not a ton of space in that cabinet over the fridge. It probably only goes back about 4" max then a back "wall" of the cabinet. I'm assuming there is something like a vent or some electronics over the fridge that just doesn't leave a lot of storage space there.

I believe the vent for gas operation of the fridge is up there... it is on my 1981 and 1975.

I have a 2010 25ft FC. There is room enough for a toaster and several other items above the frig; your frig appears larger than mine, what about space below the frig?

The Classic does have the cabinet below the refrigerator and it is only a few inches deep. I suspect there is at least a similar amount of space above the refrigerator and I am wondering why on my model they decided not to use this space.

I have a 27FB Classic and wondered the same thing. It seems like wasted space, but considering where the exhaust vent for the fridge is on the roof, there really isn't very much useful space up there, but a compartment similar to the one below the fridge might be possible.

If one is inclined to mod the cabinet, remember to seal it well to prevent fridge flue gasses from entering the living area whenever the fridge is operating on gas.

My Classic has a cabinet there, albeit only 6" deep. My PA is just dead space awaiting a door and a hole.

My 27 FB Classic also had a blank space up above the fridge. I opened it up and put in a usable storage there (about 8" deep). Do a search on the interior restoration and you will find mine and others on this subject.

I have heard people using this space as a coffee cup warmer since is is a little warm from the cooling tower for the fridge. For us, its trash bag storage!

Your cabinet looks very nicely done. Did you remove anything to do the work or did you cut the hole and install in place? Are their wires or plumbing near the cut out?

There were no wires or anything else in the way when I opened up the space. I did drill a hole from the closet adjacent and inserted a flexible scope through the hole to see what was inside. The back gets a little warm from the fridge coils but we just use the space for storing glasses. I cut all of the cabinet pieces and installed them one at a time. Because of the opening and sealing requirements, you cannot build the cabinet and slide it into place. Remember, you want all seams sealed to keep out exhaust gases from the propane burner.

There is no room above the refrigerator in my Classic. I think the cabinet below the refrigerator is shallow to accommodate the wheel well.
