The open door dump...
Group :
Here's the problem...
We want a bigger Airstream (have a 97 Safari 25 pres) & we are going to trade up to either a Classic 30 or 31.
She...wants a dinette & the microwave up off the floor.
I...want to replace the couch with two comfy recliners (she's OK with that) & have a trailer we can travel with & park more easily than a larger model.
These thoughts have us thinking of getting the 30' with the slide out.
There is only one problem...
The "open door dumper" !!
So, my question to the group is..."Has anyone here put a wall up to enclose the toilet area in a classic 30 ??"
My thanks to those who respond.

Paul,
Rather than framing a solid door, why not consider a sliding, semi-rigid privacy curtain. I'm looking at the one in my '06 19CCD right now and it would probably suit your purpose just fine. It would even be able to run on an arc with a curved track if necessary.

That was one of the many reasons we didn't like our 94 34 footer. Yeah, the honeymoon might be over but...
I think Lew's idea would work and the solid door will consume valuable real estate. Good luck.

open door dumper
This being my first airstream after 3 other brands I was kind of turned off by the unenclosed toilet on my 30 excella, I considered closing in and the curtain as well but I could get nobody else to agree with me on that as the camper does allow for privacy with the two sliding doors. I am also a big man and doing the phone booth thing just aint my thing.....My brother said who is got the nerve to come through their anyway! I guess I could put a latch on the doors too. Anyway I have not taken this one camping yet and I will soon find out, I am often reminded by a friend of mine who spent a year on the sands in desert storm and said every morning you would look out across the sands and see these guys stooping down over their little sandpits doing their thing, I guess I can live with it!

I look at the way the 'loo is configured as a plus. If you close both sliding doors (and put a latch on 'em), you have quite a large area to use for personal business.

I'm not sure I understand the issue -- "open door dumper"?
Does this mean your bathroom doesn't have a door?

Are you sure? I find it hard to believe that Airstream is building trailers with a door between the bathroom and the rest of the trailer! Is this something new with the latest models???
Or, is there a bathroom door but someone wants an additional door between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom?
ans.

Nancy, they said it's a '97 Safari. Yup, I'm scratching my head too.

There is no real door on the toilet area, but there are dividing doors on each end of the corridor where the toilet is.

Oops! I meant to say "without" (see correction above in red).
OK, I understand now what you mean with the corrider thing. I have seen that in the longer trailers with rear bedrooms.
One solution (without having to add the extra door) is if there is only one other person in the trailer with you, just close the partition between you and that person!
For example, if the other person is up front, close that door and not the bedroom door. Reverse that, if the person is in the bedroom (though I might want to close the door on the front too if the front blinds/drapes are open).

So the bathroom spans the hallway...right? Seems like a nice set-up to me as opposed to the mini-closet style corner baths wedged between the bed and the wall. It's like a Jack-n-Jill bath in a house...two doors. I would think adding another door to close off the toilet compartment would just make the space confined and the door would get in the way.

We had that setup in the Long, Long Trailer. A tub on one side, toilet and sink on the other, and a pocket door on either side to seperate from the bedroom and rest of the trailer.

The 31 dinette is probably closet to your "dream" the only problem the couch has to stay. the batteries, converter, inverter, DC panel..... are under the couch. The 30 Slideout is over 1000 lbs heavier than the non slideout and prone to leaking.
My bathroom is on one side and has a privacy door.

the o.p. (months ago) was debating the issue of...
the "split bath" (pic 1) offered in the 30s...
vs the street side bath of the 31s and 34s (pic 2).
while the 30s split bath has transverse doors to close off the bedroom or divide the trailer at mid point...
there is NO DOOR to close off the toilet and sink on the side (pic 1) while keeping the hallway open for use...
many solutions have been used and are posted already in other threads...
'curtain doors', shower hanger style doors, curved sliders, dutch doors or adding a wall/door like the fb models, and so on....
also the o.p. was looking at a 30 WITH SLIDE, which used this same 'split bath' (pic 1) NO DOOR configuration...
it appears a/s has DROPPED the 30 slide model for this year....
while offering the HORRENDOUSLY designed 30 KING SIZED frontbed-rear door model...BARF!
but the 25s, 27s and 30s (fb) do now have a normal door (pic 3) to shut off the side sink and crapper...
cheers
2air'
oh, and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS sluggo!
a 1st post dealing with the crapper is a fine way to start here!

aint' happening
Today, I looked at a 31 sovereign and saw the privacy door....It measured 37 inches from the wall to the side of the door with 3 inches from the edge of the toilet to the wall. Now I know the reason for the double door configuration on the 30's.....
Regards to all ....now where's my newspaper cause I can sure open it...
