I have resently purchased a 28ft 2004 Classic with the bedroom in the rear, I'm concerned with the fact that the previous owner has installed an 8" tempurpedic mattress in the rear bedroom. The weight of the bed is quite heavy and I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with this causing swaying and body separation?
Don't know, but you'll sure sleep soundly til you fall out! Sorry, I'm sure this is a serious issue, but those memory foam mattresses give SUCH a good sleep

we took the stock horrible 8" RV queen mattress out of our 34' and pitched it. By removing the head board, we were able to replace it with a full-sized 11" foam mattress made by the Lebeda Mattress company. In any event, the trailer doesn't handle any differently, and since we carry very little weight in the back anyway, it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

It is my intention to fit a custom sized Tempurpedic mattress into our 34ft, as the thing in it at present fails to meet the requirements needed to call it a mattress - we have been sleeping on it only when 2 memory foam toppers were covering it.. One is not enough so the sooner that monstrosity leaves the bedroom, the better.

Looking at it from a common sense point of view, the Tempur-Pedic mattress probably weighs about 120 pounds. A similar Talalay Latex mattress, about 135 pounds. An OEM queen mattress probably weighs about 50 pounds. So.... the Tempur-Pedic weighs about 70 pounds more. Not much weight to a 7000 pound trailer. Only 1%. Little effect on the other 99%.
Or... short queen mattresses are usually 59" x 74" and it is 8" thick, that is close to 20 cu. ft. . At 5 lbs. per cu. ft. density, that's about 100 pounds, plus a 6 lb. cover brings the weight to about 106 pounds or 56 more pounds than the OEM mattress or about .8 % of a 7000 lb. trailer.

Good thing these memory foam mattresses have come along. I wish I could do something about the cushions in my Minuet. They were fine when I was younger but now I tend to feel every little seam in them.

This is not factual or anything, but if you really think about it and the numbers are a close as has been suggested, the frames have been tweaked quite a bit over the years. Heck the 25' Safari SS has about 150 pounds of black tank back there. If one were removing weight and adding a bit more in it's place, I'd suspect it could be ok. I know the newer Classics are suppose to have more robust axles, so NCC will clearly go up, I would guess that using common sense when loading would be a good idea. One question I would have about newer coaches would be if they increase the NCC limits by adding larger capacity axles, have they done any further frame improvements or are they needed? Of course this all means squat to those that already have a coach....

Last year, I had 4 ammunition boxes, full of .45acp ammo under the bed.. that put a weight of 350 pounds under there, and caused no sag, no damage, and no adverse handling problems, in 3200 miles of travel. ( I went to a gun show, and bought the ammo, and a few other things.. I got 1000 pounds of various bits of junk in the back of the truck, and put the ammo in the Airstream..)
