Has anyone used a bug fogger in their bellypan to get rid of spiders? If you have an access plate that you can remove I think you can just shoot the bug bomb into there and put the plate back on. I noticed spider under the rear bumper on the frame so I got to thinking I should stop bugs before I get a problem.

Cant help on the fogger but I seem to remember reading here about people using 'hedge apples' to keep spiders out.

Not sure you will every get ahead of spiders through out the trailer. They come and go much to frequently for that.

The 2 places you do want to protect against spiders are the gas hot water heater and the gas side of the refrigerator. There is an easy and effective way to do this. Put a half dozen moth balls in a sealable plastic bag. With a pen punch 20 or so holes n the bag. Place the bags in the back of the refrigerator and the hot water heater near the burner but away form the heat. The release of the moth ball fumes will keep spiders from nesting in the burner tubes and killing the heaters.

In the bags this will last all year. If you just put moth balls they will vaporize in weeks.

I avoid using nerve poisons where I live... unless you've got a Black Widow or Brown Recluse infestation, you're probably best off w/ the mothball approach for the non-habitable areas....

Bart makes a great point. Unless the spiders are poisonous (I hate spiders BTW), and there aren't too many of them, I'd just leave them alone. Spiders keep the bug population down.

Just an idea. You could cover the whole trailer and set a can of bug bomb under the trailer and kill all of them in one swoop. Sort of a tent over the trailer. Do you know someone who will let you use their trailer cover? I guess a few large sheets of plastic taped together might work for this too.

I have found out that many spiders are actually making entry thru my a/c units. I have seen them drop down onto the bed and floor, esp. in heavily treed areas.

I was thinking of making a protective unit out of PVC pipe or something and covering it with a nylon screen to at least reduce the amount that enter this way. Of course, would have to make it large enough to not interfere with airflow. I would want it to assemble/disassemble easily also.Think it would also prevent nesting of wasps, etc in my unit.

One of my projects hopefully in the near future.

Sounds like good advice to me.

I never have understood the war on spiders. or most other bugs for that matter.

Thanks for the intersting replies. Ill have to try the hedge apples this fall in my basement and camper. Ill try some sticky traps inside the camper to see if i have any spiders inside. I think the mothballs by the water heater will keep them out of there.

Ive never been a fan of spiders..they just weird me out... just glad we dont have snakes and lizards to deal with up here!

Spiders are there looking for bugs, their food source. No bugs, no food, no spiders. I'd rather have spiders than some other bugs, like cockroaches (I hate those things!). My mom taught kindergarden for many years, and taught all her classes the above mantra I posted. She always got calls from upset parents whose kids wouldn't let them kill spiders in the house anymore! Spiders don't bother me, I try to leave them alone when I see them. My new son-in-law, who is about 6' 5" and weighs at least 250, is scared to death of them and makes my daughter remove them when he finds them. I am very amused!
