Spider Solution Needed, Please Help!
Not sure where to post this but here goes. After my trailer sat in storage for a little over a year, a while back, I found that some black widows made there home in it. I had to use a fogger to make sure I killed them all before using it again. then I aired out the unit for several days. Since that happened I now put the trailer in storage and I bag up everything in the trailer in plastic storage bags and stack the stuff on the floor so if I need to fog the area again it will be easy to remove the contents and I know there won't be any crawling friends in the stuff. Now finally to my question; if I put moth balls around the inside of the trailer will that help keep those nasty spiders out? The trailer is sealed up on the outside as much as possible but somehow they still managed to get inside and set up camp.

Black Widows aren't an issue in these parts, but Brown Recluse are.
We use moth balls over the winter and so far so good - no spiders in the spring. We put them in all of the access points (back of fridge, water heater, storage compartment, furnace, etc.). I've seen some folks sprinkle them liberally throughout the TT. The odor airs out relatively quickly in the spring with open windows.
There is also a natural repellant that many folks around here use - the fruit of an osage orange tree is used in basements of homes to repel spiders. I don't know if this is a good remedy for a TT in winter storage unless you can check it every few weeks to make sure the fruit isn't rotting.
Best of luck - I'm a backpacker and we make sure to look for those little beasties when hiking out west.

You are going to need to check your refrig, hot water heater and furnance for dead spiders and webs. They love the smell of propane.

I use moth balls to keep spiders from nesting in the burner tube of the refrigerator. But rather than just sprinkle them around loose I put them in a seal able plastic bag and then poke 20 or so holes in the bag with a pin. Moth balls left in the open will vaporize quite fast and not last through my winter storage period. However contained in the bag the vaporization is slowed down but still releases enough odor to do the job.
For the interior of the trailer I would try several bags of moth balls spotted around.
Keep in mind that the temperature in Texas will accelerate the vaporizing of the moth balls and a second application may be necessary during the storage period.

We have black widows here and whatever else the wind blows to the trailer.
I get dog flea collars and cut them into 2" pieces and put them in the bottom of the window sills, in the water heater area, fridge area and outside compartments. Been doing it for 3 years now and so far so good. but spiders are hard to control seeing as they move around.
I've noticed since I've used the flea collars that my eyes are buggin out, rash all over my body and knobs developing on my neck, not.

Hmmm... dog flea collars. Think I'll try it for our spider problem. Thanks!

We get many spiders. Moth balls when the trailer isn't in use works. Airing out the coach for use is fast. Our home, however, is another issue. We may just move into the trailer.
Yes, I have seen doorgunners knobby neck. But if you mention that to him his eyes bug out.

You guys are good. I'm still laughing about the flea collar effects on doorgunner.
Thanks everyone for the help with this problem. I bought the mothballs and will spread them around in various places in the unit. It's 87 degrees here right now, so I know those spiders will be looking for a nice dark cool spot to call home. I never thought about flea collars. Might try that also. In the trailer, of course!

There is an aerosol spider killer that targets arachnids and persists for six-months. I use it to keep the indoor cobweb builders from covering basement windows too rapidly and defeat the scary buggers in the hidey hole places I may need to be once a year...
It's made just for spiders and by the directions just coat stuff lightly and that's that. It is a slender tall aerosol can & I can't put my fingers on the can ATM to retrieve the brand & active ingredient.. If I find it like I want to I will post back.

Leave the spiders alone. You will be healthier and all other things will too if you just let them be. If you have too scoop them up on a piece of paper and toss them outside.

Ah, you sound like my late mother, bless her. She would spend a great deal of time 'shooing' flys from the house. I suppose I inherited some of that......until I became very ill a few years back. I thought that I had a severe flu and after a few days of no change in my fever my wife took me to emergency where a spider bite (Recluse maybe) was found on my lower calf. The doctor removed a lot of dead tissue. Now I squish spiders. Our daughter has severe reactions to spider bites and when she visits with our grandsons I try to clear (not round up) out spiders.

I have one rule that I stick to:
If the spider is outside, it's his home and I leave him alone. If he comes inside, it's my home and he is doomed ...or, in the case of black widows (she is doomed).

I submitted a resolve earlier last year on spiders that was presented on television due to the skin reaction by humans on some of the sprays and chemicals used to kill the 8 leg pests.
Answer: Downey Softener sheets. They work great and don't smell like moth balls! I haven't had a black widow or any spider problem since. they last for about 3 months inside. I stick them in the floor near the door, and any openings (like inside the closet/floor where the water pump is).
Also, a little off topic..... to keep mice out, use stanless steel pads and stuff them in the tube opening (under the hitch) so those little critters can't make a home.
Just saying......

I heard that Bounce is good to keep black flies away when tucked under the collar of your shirt or in the outside hat band of your hat when canoeing so maybe Downey will work with spiders in the trailer. I think I'll use all three things, moth balls, pieces of flea collars and softner sheets in various places. I'll probably have to air the thing out for a week before I'll be able to live in there myself.
One thing I won't do is keep spiders around as pets.

Bluto- HedgeApples may be your answer. There's a post here titled, Spiders in my Argosy, by wanderer1, with alot of replies in the favor of HedgeApples to keep spiders out. Check it out.

I always wondered - what exactly is a jeebie?
And is the Heebie part of the jeebie or does it describe it?
