speaking of "Duct Tape"....

the face-plate of my control panel has been loose, and the clock and thermometer are not well secured, so I browsed through my trusty service manual to see what it was all about. Seems that the faceplate is secured with double-stick mounting tape. there's a diagram in the manual describing how everything is held together, and they use the term "furnace tape" ...apparently, this is what is supposed to hold the clock and thermometer in place. never heard the term "furnace tape" before...are they talking about plain ol' duct tape?

Duct tape and furnace tape are different critters. Furnace tape can be used in higher temps - duct tape cannot. The adhesive on duct tape becomes soft and then, over time, brittle. When it finally fails, it leaves a nasty residue. Find something else to use.

Hi, Chuck

I experienced the same problem on my unit some years back. I used picture hanging tape (two-sided with the correct amount of thickness) to put it back together that lasted seven years before I sold the unit.

I think a permanent fix could be to use very small machine screws in combination with plastic screw head covers. You can buy the covers in differenct colors (I have used brown and white) to suit your taste.

3 M auto trim tape would be a good choice.

we used it on rickstreams front window on his excella, i swear you wouldn't need any rivets to hold it in! very sticky!

Plus it is suppose to have a service life of 25 years. Sounds like it would do the job to me too.
