Smile Slide cover for the screen door replacement

I have what I think is the original plastic slide cover on my screen door. The part that covers the hole where the handle is. It is almost unusable because it is old and cracking to pieces. I have search for quite some time to find a replacement but I can only find large ones that don't fit my application. Mine is like 5" x 6". Before I manufacture one out of aluminum, does anyone know where I can find one that will fit my door? Does anyone else run into the same issue and if so what did you do?

Happy to help. I need one of those myself and have it on my mental shopping list.

We bought a new one as ours is cracked, but the new one is thicker than our slide ... haven't quite figured out how we're going to get it in there yet! We will probably have to sand down the edges to make it fit. Might want to check yours.

I used a big pair of scissors to trim it to size, if it is too thick a low angle block plane works great for making it thinner along the edges.

That screen door slide is intentionally made larger, because of a variation in the screen doors.

Cut them down to a little less than 1/4 inch larger, and then flex them (bend them) so that they will fit into the screen door track.

screen door

Once installed, use silicone spray to loosen it up.

Is there anything that you can use to replace it entirely with something more decorative? And the same goes with that steel panel in the middle of the door...

I had to put velcro on the edge of the sliding panel and where it closes to the door. Our cat learned he could push it open and jump out - not that he'd go anywhere. Pick him up and bring him back in, looking at you like "I just got out here!"

A quick spray with Rustoleum "aluminum" looks awesome. Looks like metal instead of the eventual yellow plastic door....

You could also try Krylon Fusion for plastic. No need to prime first.

Handle cover

That's so funny about your cat opening your cover and getting out. Every time I close mine my cat looks at me like (How'd you do that?).
