Skylight Dilemma

We hate Lucy's skylight. Lucy came with the galley skylight option at a sticker cost of $355.00. I would gladly pay $355.00 to have it gone. We have never used it. We keep it covered all the time with rubber insulation to keep out the light and heat. Our plan is to remove the skylight and cover the hole in the roof with a sheet of aluminum, and insulate the inside.

Now comes the problem that we are looking at ideas for. What do we do with the inside ceiling part of the skylight hole? We want to do something neat and possibly useful with the space. Any thoughts out there?

Brian, pretty interesting comments as we love both of ours. Why not leave the interior as is with the pleated shade in place? Another option, which is probably closer to what you are wanting, get a length of the ceiling material from JC and re-install between the hard plastic bows where they hide the seams. You can alwasy get an artist to paint a sky in the opening

brian,

interesting post. so you have three skylights, one near the front, one near the back, and one in the middle, yes? i've read several threads on that middle skylight and it seems the general consensus is most don't utilize it. i have three on my flying cloud and i've been debating about whether to remove it or not. if it's removed i can have a slightly bigger bathroom and a bigger continuous solar panel on the roof.

could you install some sort of light fixture or maybe a miniature kind of ceiling fan? i know the headroom is limited but some sort of functional use would be ideal.

We would be happy without ours also.

I think where you are determines how irritating that big sky light is.

how about some sort of awning over the skylight, even if it was not to be left on while towing? i like the idea of a solar panel over it, as it would still provide light with much less heat.

That skylight in the sunbelt/heavy rain parts of the country cause the skylight to let in way too much heat, plus another hole in the roof is another place to leak when it rains.
Maybe you could put something in the area to block the heat, and maybe a string of rope lights around the circumference inside. If you don't like that idea, maybe a string of white christmas-type lights with some artificial vines coiled around the wire for decoration.

How about a Painted Panel of the starts or some futuristic painting of the galaxy?
