silicone inside

We are redoing a vintage Airstream and have a question. Is it ok to use silicone to seal over the seams on the exterior shell on the inside of the trailer. The inner skin is removed. I have searched the forum and see that it is a big no-no to use it on the exterior but would it be ok to use on the inside as a precautionary measure to help prevent leaks. Or should we use something else? Or should it not be sealed from the back side at all?

Thumbs down

My $.02 worth.

Use the Vulcem or other sealant that works the same way.

The Silicone WILL NOT maintain the bond to the Aluminum so your repair will be short lived. Buy it in bulk and it will not cost that much more than the silicone would have.

Besides the Vulcem will stick better to the Old Vulcem than the Silicone will.

The mess you make will not be seen and the seal you apply could stop you from having to replace part of the floor. If it was mine I would reseal anything that looks questionable.
