Shower curtain?

We have a '76 Excella, rear bath. The shower curtain/door is cracked. I have seen replacement doors, BUT, I find it odd that these doors only cover about 2/3 of the opening. There is a good foot of open space, that allows the water to spray out all over the sink and countertop. (This space is great for stretching your legs out to shave, but a real pain to have to clean this up every time you shower). The husband wants to install one of those L-shaped curtain rods and go with a shower curtain, in order to close this space off.
Anybody else have this problem? How would you attach this rod to the nice fiberglass in the shower?

In the below photo, you can see how we mounted our shower curtain, it may work as well for you.

I had the same problem on my 77 Caravanner , I bought a used replacement on ebay for 30.00 bucks and could not get it installed correct, the rollers and clips kept breaking , ended up throwing it all away and putting small stainless steel washers behind the roller hanger on top to give the hooks some room to slide and used a regular curtian like the house has , it works better than the original , less of the splashing anyway

Hmm, I can't tell really. Is that a tension rod? The husband seems certain that a tension rod won't work.

Hmm, trying to put a picture here, but I don't know how. Guess I'll have to work on that.

Hmm, looks like I'm smarter than I think!!
Anyway, as you can see, the existing track only goes to the edge of the counter. The part that goes back is all open.
