Scrap or parts

Hi everyone! I posted several months ago after my husband and i learned a very hard and expensive lesson about doing due diligence before buying...the very short version is we bought a damaged AS Bambi off ebay with the intention of restoring it slowly but the seller never disclosed that there was a certificate of destruction on it, not a salvage title as we were led to believe. We have since settled with the seller and got some money back (we didn't want an even longer drawn out court case in another state, this is why we settled ). We also are super in love with the 16' sport we have since purchased from Colonial AS Anyway, we are now stuck deciding what to do with the damaged one that is still in our yard so i wanted to ask opinions. Is it worth taking it apart and try to sell parts or should we just cut our losses and have her hauled away for scrap? It seems like a lot of work to take her apart..Thanks!

We are very interested in buying your scrap airstream for parts. We have made a custom bunkhouse for our family and are now restoring a little airstream for just us grownups. We need a lot of parts! Would you be interested in selling it to us?

Pictures of what you have. I have a need for some parts and would be interested in them if available. Not the whole trailer if you decide to part out.

Sorry, I forgot to mention all the pertinent info! It's a 2005 19' Bambi. The damage is all roadside and mostly exterior, the only interior damage was to the cupboards over the bed. I will post pictures tomorrow night. One important caveat: we learned AFTER we had it towed 7 hours from Orlando but it is not supposed to be on the road due to the certificate of destruction. It towed up here just fine (like I said, we were still innocent and woefully uninformed at that time) but it is supposed to be transported on a flat bed. Thank you all for your replies and suggestions!

Please explain this "certificate of destruction".
Who did that come from? The insurance company? The DMV or DOT?
Is it possible to have it inspected for road worthiness, after repairers, and issued a new title?

Sorry for delay, busy few days. A COD if issued by the insurance company. It's basically a death sentence for the vehicle, it cannot be rebuilt and used on the road. We looked into several options but unless we (illegally) title washed, we had no options. I will say I don't know much about the possibility of rebuilding on a different trailer and getting a title for a homemade vehicle. It's extremely frustrating because the trailer is actually in really great condition, minus the hole on her back curbside and the scrapes along that side. The other side is pretty much immaculate and the interior is in great shape, again, minus the one hole. I am attaching pics below

Put it back on Ebay with the disclosure about the title. This would cost your loss the most.

Well, color me iggerant, but how the hey can the insurance co issue a permanent death certificate?? Isn't the ins co's legal interest/power due only to the premiums paid and ownership by their insured? Once the trailer is owned by another party, how does the previous owner's ins co come into it at all? I understand a "total loss" designation entered permanently on the trailer's title, as is done in some states, but that affects only future sale price once the trailer has been repaired and is certified roadworthy by the DMV or whoever does road inspections, yes??

What am I missing here?? I'm really curious, I've never heard of a "death certificate"....

Oh sorry: certificate of destruction. "A rose by any other name," etc etc.

Some states don't title trailers. Check this thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f352/certificate-of-destruction-63438.html

Rick,
Thanks! Very informative thread you posted, I guess I'm still a little confused about the certificate of destruction, its origin and function, but it is good to know there is a way around the problem. Sounds like a plain and simple bureaucratic obstruction. I hope I never have to figure it out for myself, though.

I had enough trouble to last me a lifetime getting two titles after paying for the trailers--and yes, I knew better; just got carried away!

Thanks again!

Vivian
