retractable cables

Hello everyone
I'm a total newbie to the airsteam world, I've done a hole lot of reading and searching and havent seen this addressed yet, I recently found a diamond in the ruff so to speak a 1966 28' ambasodor in what apears to be almost completly original condition a few dents and dings but for the most part in remarkably good condition. Durring our cleaning we came accross these two thin retratable cables in the back bed area that come from inside the kitchen closet, for the life of me I cant seem to figure out what there purpase is.
If anyone has any idea please would you please inlighten me.
thanks

Oh boy, that's hard to visulize...got any pictures?

Sounds like a drying line or something to hang a curtain from for privacy??? Possibly a PO added them, doesn't sound like original equipment to me from your discription...pictures may help figure it out.

Welcome to Airstreaming.

Could those cables possibly be for a hanging bunk bed?

Both good guesses however I don't think so, the cables are about three feet long when extended and come out of the wall about a foot above the bed, totaly weird!! here are some pics i hope http://www.airforums.com/forums/atta...1&d=1187052092

Very strange indeed...I have NO idea! Definately not standard equipment...

Although, Ganglin's idea is very clever!

Are there weights, or springs of some kind on the ends of the cables? From recent experience, they may be some kind of traction device, say for an injured neck.

The last time I saw something like that there were mirrors involved .

I think Terry may be on to something if they are heavy duty enough.

Pushing this back to the top - we have to figure out what this is....

I had another thought - the old owners really wanted one of those fancy Nutone things but couldn't afford it. So, you can set a bowl on the bottom shelf and I'll bet there's a place to insert a mixer blade under the top shelf....

Well my dear Watson, more information would be helpful.
1. How robust are these cables and mechanisms?
2. What is the method of retraction?
3. What is on the ends of the cables?
4. How far do they pull out?
5. Cable diameter and material?
6. General geometry of the system?

The one picture I can view poses more questions than it answers!

You can expand the above photo if it helps - click on it - wait a sec. - point at it and the expand box will show in the bottom right corner. There has to be a Sherlock that can figure this out among all these minds.....

How about:

Some kind of foldable ironing board
Clothes line
Personal entertainment center... (did you find any leather or silk in the vicinity)?

Going to stand in the corner now....
