Replace stereo w iPod. Suggestions?

I have a 67 that had a car audio system installed in the 80s. It takes ... Tapes. Which is cute but impractical. There are speakers wired through the trailer. I want to just plugin or dock the iPod instead, using the same speakers. Nothing high tech needed. Any suggestions?

Depending on what you like to listen to, those old speakers might not be up for the job with a new deck. There are a number of bluetooth car stereos out there that will accept the input of your iPod...or even connect to it if it has bluetooth. So, you could buy a new deck and install, if you can work out the connections - maybe find a car stereo installer to help you out. Try it with the old speakers...and if they don't sound good, replace them a nice set of flush mount marine speakers. Or you could remove the old system and just use a portable bluetooth speaker system. They put out great sound...and you can move it around to where you need it. Bose makes a nice unit, as does Jawbone.

Get yourself an iPod touch. It has bluetooth. If your radio has in input port for external devices, you could buy one of these.

The Sony in all the new units is really a great machine. Accepts the iPod pluged in. Bluetooth, Sirius ready, etc. I would at least price it. Should be able to order it from JC.

Here is the Sony in a 2012 30 Flying Cloud with Sirius attached. iPod plugs in, will even slide internally or hook up Bluetooth.

The Sony that comes in the new trailers is way under $200 at car stereo stores.
New speakers are in the $50 range.
That Sony will hook up an iPod via USB, Bluetooth, or you can put the iPod inside of it where normally the CD player would go.
This is OK for the newer trailers because the Blu-ray player is patched into the stereo.
If you have no Blu-ray player, you may want to opt for a CD unit and play the iPod via USB or Bluetooth.
For $200 you can update you whole sound system to the latest and greatest.

For ours, I got a Pioneer with a USB connector. I plug in the iPod through its charge line into that, and have music. Cost was about a hundred dollars.
