Removing Zolatone paint from interior walls
I have searched but with little success about this topic. If anybody can teach me the secrets of forum searches please let me know.
I want the bare frosty aluminium look on the interior walls.
The paint is pretty chippy, I was thinking perhaps a power washer?
I know it is painstaking but I have the time.
Just bought a 1962 Tradewind, two days ago

We replaced all of the interior aluminum. At $45/sheet 4x10 .032 3003 allow is was cheaper than buying gallons of stripper and dealing with the mess. At least that was how I mentally justified it...

Well, I agree that the bare aluminum looks nice. But you are more right than you know to call it "frosty" Wait until your body touches it at night while sleeping. It doesn't even have to be winter. You will immediately feel extreme cold.
So, you may want to do something about the walls around your bed at least.
Zolotone isn't much protection from the cold, but it does beat bare AL somewhat.
PS - Striping it is possible, and there are some threads here from those who have done it, but maybe putting in new is, if not cheaper, certainly easier, faster, safer and less hazardous. That stripper stuff is nasty.

What about bead blasting? I think Matt on the Double Nickel Project did that on some of his panels. Don’t remember how it came out.

We used Aircraft Stripper and Citristrip from O’Reillys Auto Parts. But like skyguyscott said, the Aircraft is nasty stuff. The primer Zolatone used back then was tough stuff and hard to strip off. We had the panels out and could do all the stripping in the open air. Knowing we would reapply the Zolatone, I sanded the panels after stripping. There are those who have stripped and polished the alclad. If I had planned on a shiny finish, I would have followed Vernon’s advice and replaced the interior panels, except for the end caps. I am not familiar with a 1962 interior end cap. If it’s aluminum it may have been stretch formed which takes special equipment.

On the 66 we patched holes in the fiberglass end caps, sanded, primed and used the Zolatone Flex roll on in the interior. In the 55 we sprayed the regular Zolatone. I have seen some make aluminum segmented flat pieces and attach to the fiberglass end cap. Whatever you want the end product to look like.

We painted the fiberglass endcaps in our '63 as well as the metal ones in a '55
Careful choice of colors carry through the camper without defining it.

You may be able to find a Soda Blast company. Less mess and easier to clean up plus it won't cut into the aluminum.
